Chiefs fans' worst fears came true late in the first half of Super Bowl 57 when quarterback Patrick Mahomes came up limping after a third-down scramble and slumped on the bench after.
Mahomes, who suffered a high-ankle sprain in the AFC divisional round against the Jaguars and played through it against the Bengals in the conference championship game, was in obvious pain as he went over to the Chiefs' sideline.
Mike Jones of The Athletic reported that Mahomes was walking up and down the sideline and was looking at a Microsoft Surface tablet shortly afterward.

Mahomes would come back out for the second half and not only play, but lead the Chiefs to a 38-35 victory in a Herculean performance on his ankle. He confirmed after the game he aggravated the injury, but there was no way he was going to miss time.

The Chiefs went on to win 38-35 in a thriller, spearheaded by an MVP performance from Mahomes.
After the game, Mahomes confirmed he had re-aggravated the ankle... While also confirming there was no way it would cause him to miss a snap.
"I knew I wasn't coming out of this game," he told reporters post-game. "I re-aggravated it a little bit... I'll worry about that in the offseason."
The good news for Mahomes is the offseason is now, so he can immediately start his recovery. The better news is he'll begin that recovery as a Super Bowl champion.
