The Colts planned to play Nick Foles at quarterback for the rest of the season after benching Matt Ryan for him.
However, Foles suffered a serious-looking injury in Indianapolis' Week 17 game against the Giants that may change the team's plans at the position.
Foles was hurt late in the second half after he was sacked by Kayvon Thibodeaux. The Giants rookie drove the Colts quarterback into the ground and Foles appeared to be writhing in pain after the play.

NFL MOCK DRAFT: Colts land top QB prospect with top-10 pick
Foles had to be carted to the locker room after the hit from Thibodeaux. The Colts didn't provide an update on his status before halftime, but but ruled him out following the break due to a rib injury.
Foles completed 8 of 13 passes for 81 yards and an interception before he exited the game. He was sacked just once and logged eight yards on one scramble.
With Foles out of action, the Colts are going to turn to Sam Ehlinger at the quarterback position. They will hope that their young backup can give them a chance to come from behind against the Giants.

Colts QB depth chart
Below is a look at the Colts' quarterback depth chart, which will now be topped by Sam Ehlinger.
Rank | Player |
1 | Nick Foles |
2 | Sam Ehlinger |
3 | Matt Ryan |
Ehlinger is the only healthy quarterback on the Colts' roster for Sunday's game against the Giants.
Ehlinger, 24, is much more mobile than Foles and will provide some scrambling ability. The second-year quarterback made two starts earlier in the season, recording an 0-2 record while completing 61.5 percent of his passes for 304 yards and one interception.
Ryan began the season as the Colts' starter, but he was set to be inactive for the final three games of the 2022 NFL season. Those plans may change in Week 18 if Foles can't get back on the field.
Ryan posted a 4-7-1 record in 12 starts, completing 67 percent of his passes for 3,057 yards, 14 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He struggled greatly with turnovers and sacks which led him to be benched twice.
