Nick Bosa injury update: 49ers star pass rusher leaves game with groin injury vs. Panthers image

The 49ers will be without one of their lynchpin defensive pieces for the rest of Sunday's game against the Panthers, as Nick Bosa exited the 49ers' Week 5 game with a groin injury.

Bosa, who has logged six sacks so far this season, came up lame early in the game and was ruled out for the game shortly after.

The Niners pass rusher has been putting together a Defensive Player of the Year-caliber season, having entered this game leading the league in sacks, QB pressures, QB hits, and pressure rate.

Bosa played all of the 2021 season after tearing his ACL in Week 2 and missing the year in 2020. That's the only major injury in the star's history.

IYER: What's wrong with the Steelers?

The severity of the injury is yet to be determined, but Bosa did remain on the 49ers sideline despite exiting the game.

Charles Omenihu is next up on the depth chart for the Niners, and Jordan Willis is on IR. It's another big hit for the 49ers pass rushing depth chart, which is already missing Arik Armstead and Javon Kinlaw. The severity of Bosa's injury could have a huge influence on the outlook of the 49ers defense moving forward. The Niners have the Falcons next week and the Chiefs the week after, which will be a Super Bowl 54 rematch.

This story will be updated as more info becomes available.
