Today's NFL thrives on versatility. Whether it's offensive linemen who can fill in at multiple positions or defenders capable of stuffing the run and shutting down the pass, the game is full of eclectic talents capable of affecting a game in a variety of ways.
It's not your parents' NFL, that much is for sure. And perhaps no position better exemplifies this pursuit of adaptability than quarterback.
Justin Fields, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen and so many others have changed the tenor of the QB position, forcing defenses to guard against both the run and the pass. Put too much attention on their arms and they'll sauce you in the open field. Try too hard to stop the run and they'll skewer you through the air.
There has never been this much running talent under center at any point in NFL history. Even the most talented of gunslingers have tended to make some eye-popping rushes, too.

NFL QB rushing leaders
No QB gained more yardage on the ground than Bears phenom Justin Fields, who became just the third quarterback to ever eclipse the 1,000 rushing yard mark in a single season. Things were looking a bit uncertain for Fields early in the season. But once Matt Eberflus and company committed to letting the scintillating sophomore tuck the ball and run, good things happened.

MORE: Who is the best QB in the NFL right now?
Fields was the clear-cut leader in rushing yards among quarterbacks (although you'd have to imagine Jackson would've given him a run for his money had he not missed the last five games of the year due to injury). When it came to finding the end zone by land, though, he couldn't match the excellence of Eagles star Jalen Hurts. Hurts tallied 13 rushing scores this season, the second-highest QB total ever (trailing only Cam Newton's 2011 MVP season). That's one way to cement your status as a starter.
