The Dolphins will have to draft with a porpoise this year.

Miami enters the 2023 NFL Draft with the fewest picks in the league, with just four selections across seven rounds. Given how star-studded their roster is, they may not need many picks.

The Phins made one of the biggest splashes of the offseason, trading for Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Should Miami be healthy this year, the Dolphins will be a Super Bowl favorite in the second year of Mike McDaniel's tenure in South Beach.

Should things go south, then some may look at their lack of draft capital as a reason why.

Dolphins NFL Draft needs

  • Running back: Jeff Wilson and Raheem Mostert re-signed on cheap, two-year deals, but the Dolphins could use a true do-it-all back on Day 2 to extend beyond their contracts.
  • Tight end: Mike Gesicki took his Griddy and ran to New England this offseason, leaving the Dolphins without a true pass-catching tight end. They could look on Day 3 to take a tight end in a pretty deep and good class.
  • Quarterback: Put down the pitchforks, Fish fans. No one is saying draft Tua Tagovailoa's replacement. The fact remains that Tagovailoa was another concussion away from potentially costing himself a career, and while preseason darling Skylar Thompson got plenty of action in 2022, he's likely not an answer. Neither is free agent acquisition Mike White. Taking a flyer on a mid-round quarterback to sit and marinate behind Tagovailoa isn't a bad strategy, especially if they address their needs elsewhere.
