Josh Allen nicknames: Why Tony Romo calls Bills QB 'The Alien' and 'Mr. January' image

Josh Allen is a man of many talents. The Bills star has developed quite the reputation over the years, thrusting himself into NFL MVP contention while taking his team to heights it hasn't reached since the early 1990s.

That has spawned countless nicknames, from The General to The Winter Soldier. There are a pair of recent additions to that list, both provided by a man who is something of an expert on good quarterback play.

Allen started Buffalo's wild-card clash with Miami in style, finding Dawson Knox in the end zone to open the scoring for the Bills. And with CBS — and its resident quarterback guru, Tony Romo — on the call, he was anointed an "ice-cold" nickname.

Romo crowned Allen as "Mr. January," owing to his playoff theatrics.

Allen's postseason stats are eye-popping; the 26-year old has 17 touchdown passes to three interceptions, plus a rushing touchdown and a receiving TD, since making his playoff debut in 2019.

Romo received a bit of pushback for his remarks — namely, from legions of Chiefs fans who took to social media to protest. After all, Allen is 3-3 in the playoffs, a far cry from Kansas City star Patrick Mahomes, who has 35 total touchdowns, a 9-3 postseason record and, most importantly, a Lombardi Trophy to his name.

But Allen is certainly up there. And his name carries weight in NFL circles, with some people going as far as labeling him as otherworldly. Literally.

Analysts including Romo, NFL Network's Michael Robinson and "Good Morning Football" co-host Jason McCourty, have given Allen with another nickname: Alien.

Romo, a man with more idioms than The Riddler, even passed on a few other suggestions for Buffalo's favorite son:

Perhaps it was overkill from the former Cowboys signal-caller. Rest assured, though, that if the Bills accomplish anything this season, their part-snowman, part-alien QB will likely be the biggest reason why.
