Jaylen Wright 40 time: How Miami's newest RB weapon compares to speedy teammates image

The Miami Dolphins drafted Jaylen Wright in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Wright spent three years playing for the Tennessee Volunteers in college.

The running back saw limited action as a freshman in 2021, but his workload grew in 2022 and 2023. While he was a talented rusher, the most notable aspect of his game was his speed.

Wright is 5-11 and weighs 200 pounds, but he was accustomed to blowing by defenders and breaking off long runs for Tennessee.

Wright wasn't expected to be a high draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He was one of many players, though, whose performance at the annual NFL Combine helped to increase his draft stock.

When he ran the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, Wright turned some heads, especially when analysts maintained that he could run much faster. Officially, he ran a 4.38 40-yard dash, which was the second-fastest among the running backs. Wright's time was tied for the 10th-fastest among all draft prospects that ran the event at the combine.

Wright hasn't suited up for a regular-season NFL game but played during the preseason. The rookie had several runs where it looked like he was going to get tackled, and then all of a sudden, he either spun out of tackles and reversed direction or appeared to break away from a group of would-be tackles and turned it into a significant gain.

He should have some chances in Week 2 with Raheem Mostert (chest) already ruled out and De'Von Achane (ankle) listed as a game-time decision.

How does Jaylen Wright's 40 time compare to Dolphins teammates?

Whether it was from pertinent trades, free agent signings, or draft picks, Miami has a history of investing in fast players. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill is one of the fastest players in the entire NFL, but he isn't the only Dolphin who has impressive speed.

Wright fits right in among his teammates and will likely get to show off his speed at some point during his rookie season.
