Signing C.J. Gardner-Johnson was a coup for the Lions this offseason. After putting together his best season as a pro with the Eagles in 2022, Gardner-Johnson was a major addition to a Lions defense primed for a playoff run.
But, CJGJ may have made his debut in Week 1 and his 2023 exit with the Lions in Week 2. According to reports, Gardner-Johnson's campaign is in jeopardy as he nurses an injury he suffered vs. the Seahawks on Sept. 17.

CJ Gardner-Johnson injury update
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo, C.J. Gardner-Johnson is feared to have suffered a torn pec in the Lions' Week 2 matchup vs. the Seahawks. He appeared to suffer the injury on the first drive of the game, and would return to the field on the ensuing defensive possession.
At minimum, the DB may be out indefinitely.
The injury puts a damper on the new-look Lions secondary, which signed Gardner-Johnson on a one-year, $6.5 million contract prior to the 2023 season. That was a steal for a player coming off the best, most productive season of his career.
Gardner-Johnson would take to Instagram to post a cryptic image following the news hitting the wire:
Depending on how the Lions handle the situation, it could have been a short-lived tenure for Gardner-Johnson in Detroit.
