Josh Allen has a new weapon on offense.

The 2024 offseason has been a tumultuous one for Bills fans. Buffalo saw a number of notable stars let go in free agency in an effort to cut down cap constraints. However, no name leaving the team was as big as when the Bills traded star wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Texans, leaving Allen without his option.

It left the team without a No. 1 wide receiver .. and really a true No. 2 as well. So it was expected that GM Brandon Beane would address the position at the 2024 NFL Draft.

It took the Bills an extra day, but the AFC East standouts finally got their guy in the second round, selecting Florida State wide receiver Keon Coleman with the 33rd pick. It immediately gives Allen an upgrade on offense, and a potentially dangerous one at that.

So how does the Bills' wide receiver room look now? Here is a closer look at the WR depth chart in Buffalo.

Bills WR depth chart

  • 1. Keon Coleman
  • 2. Khalil Shakir
  • 3. Curtis Samuel
  • 4. Mack Hollins

The Bills went into the 2024 NFL Draft needing to add a wide receiver. When the Diggs trade to the Texans went down, it left the team with no true No. 1 wide receiver.

While they did not go with one on Day 1, Buffalo used the No. 33 pick to take Coleman, giving Allen an immediate top weapon.

Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel stats

You can argue who the No. 1 wide receiver is between Coleman and Khalil Shakir, but there isn't much difference. Both are unproven at the NFL level in a large role, as Shakir has just 49 receptions for 772 yards and three touchdowns in his short NFL career. Still, the pair factor to be the top two targets among the wide receiver group for Allen.

Buffalo signed slot receiver Curtis Samuel, who is coming off a 2023 season in Washington where he had 62 catches for 613 yards and four touchdowns. The Bills also added depth option Mack Hollins, who managed to bring in just 18 receptions for 251 yards last year with the Falcons, and Andy Isabella, who is more of a special teams talent than an offensive option.

Justin Shorter was a fifth-round pick in 2023, but he did not play at all last campaign due to a hamstring injury.

It is important to note that Allen does have two strong options at tight end in the passing game. Dalton Kincaid emerged as the team's top TE last year as a rookie, finishing second on the team in catches (73) and targets (91), and third in receiving yards (673). Dawson Knox, whose injury opened the door for Kincaid, has been a steady option for the last five years for Allen, and caught 22 passes for 186 yards in 2023.
