For the first time since 2019, Colts fans have a reason to be excited with their quarterback.
The franchise had been left in purgatory since that August night when Andrew Luck shocked the world in announcing his retirement. A merry-go-round, carousel, game of musical chairs — whatever your preference — is what took over in the meantime.

Indianapolis had 21 seasons of watching mostly Luck or Peyton Manning under center, starting only nine quarterbacks in that span — mostly as injury replacements for a few games. In the four seasons since Luck's departure, the Colts have already racked up seven different starters.
On Saturday, the Colts kicked off their preseason in Buffalo against the Bills. In doing so, the Colts got a glimpse into their future signal caller, Anthony Richardson, one they hope will bring stability to the most important position in sports once again.
Anthony Richardson stats vs. Bills
It's well known at this point that the No. 4 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft only started 13 games in college for the Florida Gators.
Growing pains are to be expected.
And that's similar to what we saw on Saturday. Richardson played three series before being taken out after the first quarter. It started off rocky as the rookie tossed an interception on the opening drive.

He seemed indecisive, unsure of where to throw the ball and got caught in between. But it's not a surprise as the former Florida star learns a new offense. From that point on, Richardson settled in.
Richardson completed 7-of-12 passes for 67 yards and the interception. He also added two carries for seven rushing yards.

The stats could've looked better if Alec Pierce was able to haul in this pass toward the end of the first quarter. It's a throw that put Richardson's arm talent on display, demonstrating the necessary touch and accuracy that will make Colts fans excited.

Overall, he had an up-and-down day, but with more good than bad.
One thing fans didn't get to see was the rookie's dazzling rushing ability, but it's likely as a result of the Colts coaches asking him to limit hits in the preseason. Rest assured, once the regular season kicks off, the No. 4 pick will put the full skillset on display.
But it wasn't a bad first impression.
