Inside Levi’s Stadium: Location, cost, capacity & more to know about 49ers' home stadium image

Levi's Stadium is the place the 49ers call home. It's a place where fans of the team gather to watch its games.

And that's exactly what will happen Sunday, as the team prepares to go head-to-head with the Lions in the NFC Championship Game with a spot in Super Bowl 58 on the line.

In addition to serving as the 49ers' stadium, Levi's Stadium has hosted more than 100 major events, including the Redbox Bowl, the Pac-12 Championship and the College Football Playoff.

Here's a look into everything to know about the venue.

How long did Levi's Stadium construction take and how much did it cost?

Levi's Stadium has served as the home of the 49ers, who used to play in the now-demolished Candlestick Park, since 2014.

Construction on the stadium started in April of 2012. The stadium opened July 17, 2014, becoming the NFL's fastest-constructed stadium. It cost $1.3 billion to construct Levi's Stadium.

Where is Levi's Stadium?

The exact address of Levi's Stadium is 4900 Marie P DeBartolo Way, Santa Clara, CA 95054. It lies just west of the larger city of San Jose, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area. It is approximately 40 miles south of San Francisco.

Levi's Stadium capacity

Levi's stadium can hold a maximum of approximately 68,500 and features 165 luxury suites and 8,500 club seats. By square footage, it's a relatively large stadium at 1.85 million square feet, though there are a host of NFL stadiums larger than it from both a capacity and a square footage perspective.

Special features of Levi's Stadium

Levi's Stadium has a number of special features that make it both a unique and environmentally-friendly stadium. One of those is the green roof, also known as the NRG Solar Terrace.

The green roof contains a number of sustainability features, per the stadium's website. Those include access to public transportation and a bike path, using reclaimed wood and working to fulfill farm-to-table menus, among other features.

For entertainment, the stadium also features a bourbon steakhouse and a bourbon pub.

Does Levi's Stadium have a roof?

Levi's Stadium does not have a traditional roof. It does, however, have a green roof and rooftop farm on top of its suite tower. A green roof is "an extension of the existing roof which involves, at a minimum, high quality waterproofing, root repellent system, drainage system, filter cloth, a lightweight growing medium, and plants," according to greenroofs.org.

The stadium's green roof, which measures 27,000 square feet "contains 16 species of vegetation native to the Bay area," per the stadium website.

There is a portion of the space of roughly 6,500 square feet that can be used for receptions and other events.

What is Levi's Stadium named for?

The stadium is named for Levi Strauss & Co., which purchased naming rights in 2013. The company said Thursday that it intends to spend $170 million to keep its name on the stadium, continuing to support the home team of San Francisco.
