As the 2021-22 NBA season comes to a close and we approach the playoffs, talk starts to shift towards the awards and speculation begins as to who will take home some of the league's most prestigious hardware.
The award ceremony honors the top players that had outstanding performances during the previous season.
Some of the awards handed out include Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year, NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Sixth Man of the Year, Coach of the Year and Most Improved Player of the Year.

Up until 2016, the awards were announced separately throughout the postseason but in 2017, the first-ever NBA Awards Show took place in New York City. It was a night to honor all nominees and winners together and was exclusively broadcasted by TNT.
The most anticipated award of the night is usually the announcement of the MVP winner. The two players who have won the past three awards – Giannis Antetokounmpo and current holder Nikola Jokic – are among the three favorites, along with Joel Embiid, to win the 2021-22 MVP award.
