Victor Wembanyama stats, highlights: Spurs No. 1 pick bounces back strong in second Summer League game image

Victor Wembanyama's Summer League debut may have left fans looking for more, but he made up for it in his second game.

The French phenom was subject to criticism after finishing with just nine points on 2-for-13 shooting from the field in front of a sold-out Thomas & Mack Center on Friday. He responded like the competitor he is, putting his bad debut behind him with a monster showing against the Trail Blazers.

Wembanyama looked more energetic and engaged on both ends of the floor. He attacked the basket with aggression and found a rhythm with his jumper. Despite the loss, the No. 1 overall pick finished with 27 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks while shooting an efficient 9-for-14 from the field.

If you missed any of Wembanyama's bounce-back second game, The Sporting News had you covered with live updates, highlights and more throughout the contest.

Victor Wembanyama at Summer League: Stats, highlights from Spurs vs. Trail Blazers in Las Vegas

Final: Trail Blazers 85, Spurs 80

9:58 p.m.: The Trail Blazers closed out the win, but Victor Wembanyama showed out in his second game. The No. 1 overall pick erupted for 27 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks and one steal while shooting 9-for-14 from the field, 2-for-4 from 3 and 7-for-12 from the free throw line.

Michael Devoe was the star for Portland, producing 29 points after filling in for Scoot Henderson in the starting lineup.

9:55 p.m.: It's looking like the Spurs' comeback hopes are going to come up just short. Victor Wembanyama missed one of his patented one-legged running 3s and San Antonio was forced to foul.

The Trail Blazers lead by five points, 85-80, with 7.1 seconds to play.

9:52 p.m.: Victor Wembanyama... clutch! The No. 1 pick buries a 3-pointer to bring the Spurs within one point with under two minutes to play. He has poured in 27 points, bouncing back with a vengeance.

9:49 p.m.: Victor Wembanyama has checked back into the game and he is trying to will the Spurs to a comeback victory. He knocked down a midrange jumper to cut the Trail Blazers' lead to just four points, 79-75, with 2:28 to play.

9:40 p.m.: Victor Wembanyama started the fourth quarter, knocking down his first 3-pointer of the night followed by a nice pirouette fadeaway off the glass out of the post. He's up to 22 points on the night while shooting 7-for-11 from the field, but he is heading to the bench with five and a half minutes to play.

End of third quarter: Trail Blazers 66, Spurs 52

9:29 p.m.: Victor Wembanyama ended up coming back in for the final two minutes of the frame, collecting two more rebounds. He has registered his first double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The Spurs are still behind, trailing the Blazers by 14 points heading into the fourth quarter.

9:15 p.m.: Victor Wembanyama's third stint has come to a close. He is up to 17 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and one steal while shooting 5-for-8 from the field.

9:13 p.m.: Victor Wembanyama has generated a lot of free throw attempts — be it attacking the basket or drawing fouls on pull-up jumpers. He was fouled on a 3-point attempt and went 1-for-3 from the stripe.

He is struggling from the free throw line, shooting 7-for-12 on the night.

9:04 p.m.: We interrupt your Victor Wembanyama updates for a ridiculous Shaedon Sharpe dunk in transition.

9:02 p.m.: Victor Wembanyama has come out of halftime with the same aggressive mentality. He's been attacking the basket with every opportunity and just had an impressive putback and-one that sent the crowd into a frenzy.

Wembanyama is up to 16 points, eight rebounds and two blocks on 5-of-7 shooting from the field.

Halftime: Trail Blazer 43, Spurs 33

8:50 p.m.: The Spurs were able to cut into the Trail Blazers' lead with Victor Wembanyama on the bench, trailing by just 10 points at the half. Portland guard Michael Devoe's 17 points leads all scorers.

8:43 p.m.: Victor Wembanyama's second stint has come to an end, and it was the version of the No. 1 pick that everyone has been expecting. He looked aggressive on the offensive end and engaged on the defensive end. He found a rhythm with the pull-up jumper and had a pair of emphatic dunks over multiple defenders at the rim.

Wembanyama has 11 points, six rebounds and two blocks while shooting 4-for-5 from the field and 3-for-6 at the free throw line. He has not attempted a 3-pointer yet.

8:34 p.m.: Now Victor Wembanyama is starting to attack. He scored six straight points for the Spurs, continuing an impressive sequence with a poster dunk over a number of Trail Blazers defenders.

The Spurs still trail 29-16, but Wembanyama is up to eight points, six rebounds and two blocks on 4-of-5 shooting from the field.

8:32 p.m.: Here comes Wemby. The French phenom just buried an impressive pull-up midrange jumper off of a quick crossover, then tipped an offensive rebound to himself for a putback dunk.

8:28 p.m.: Another blocked 3-pointer for Victor Wembanyama! After swatting Brandon Miller's 3-point attempt in his debut, Wembanyama did the same thing at the top of the key on a Rayan Rupert 3-point attempt.

End of first quarter: Trail Blazers 19, Spurs 8

8:24 p.m.: It was a low-scoring affair in the first quarter as the Spurs trail the Blazers by 11 points. Victor Wembanyama only played five and a half minutes in the frame, scoring two points to go with four boards.

Portland's point guard Michael Devoe led all scorers with five points.

8:13 p.m.: Victor Wembanyama's first shift has come to an end, subbing out with just under four and a half minutes remaining in the first quarter. He went 0-for-2 from the free throw line but buried a midrange jumper to get on the board.

Wembanyama has two points, four rebounds and one turnover so far.

8:10 p.m.: It's been another quiet start for Victor Wembanyama, who has only taken one shot attempt through the first four minutes of this contest. He is headed to the free throw line with San Antonio trailing 5-3.

One interesting thing to note: After defending on the perimeter against Brandon Miller and the Hornets, Wembanyama is back to protecting the paint, guarding Trail Blazers center Ibou Badji.
