Stephen Curry-Scoot Henderson relationship, explained: How Warriors star is mentoring top NBA Draft prospect image

If you're looking to emulate an NBA guard, there aren't many options better than Stephen Curry.

The Warriors star is a two-time MVP and four-time champion, and he continues to play at an extremely high level. He will enter the Basketball Hall of Fame as soon as he is eligible.

That's why Scoot Henderson, a G League Ignite product and one of the top prospects in this year's NBA Draft class, has decided to team up with Curry.

In a May press release, Curry and Henderson announced that they had formed a "strategic alliance" which will allow Henderson to "gain the support and mentorship of Curry."

Stephen Curry-Scoot Henderson relationship, explained

Curry and Henderson met through a few of Curry's associates who thought they would be able to build a strong bond because of their "shared commitment to balancing basketball and philanthropy," per The Associated Press. They were able to connect in late March when Henderson and his younger sister, Moochie, had a workout session with Curry's coaches.

There are obvious benefits that come with having Curry as a mentor. Henderson has been working with Curry's training staff, giving him the opportunity to improve his skills before he ever steps onto an NBA court.

But the relationship doesn't stop there. Curry also plans to assist Henderson in his off-court pursuits, including his business interests and charitable contributions.

"I have been watching Scoot and his family for a while now, and I am beyond impressed with what he has accomplished thus far, and excited to watch him take control of his future and grow," Curry said as part of the press release. "Our values are deeply aligned when it comes to prioritizing family, hard work and appreciating the blessings in our lives.

"I firmly believe that what he and the Henderson Family are building is transformative and will change the narrative for how athletes and their families leverage their influence. I truly admire that we share a common interest and commitment to promoting equity and access for athletes through youth sports and empowering the next generation."

In an interview with ESPN's Malika Andrews, Henderson explained that, while he has already been picking up tips from Curry, he is able to "open doors for him as well."

"It's definitely a great relationship that I'm building right now, just seeing how he's been so established in the league and great throughout the years, seeing him grow as a hooper, not just on the court but a lot of things off the court that he's involved in, in his community," Henderson said.
