NBA All-Star voting 2024: Takeaways from final fan vote returns to decide captains, starting lineups image

We're one step closer to learning who will start in the 2024 NBA All-Star Game.

The NBA has revealed fan vote returns for the third and final time ahead of the Feb. 18 game. Voting opened on Dec. 19 and will close at 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 20. With the final returns coming in on Jan. 18, fans will have less than 48 hours to turn ballots in and influence whether or not their favorite players will start this year's game.

Like in years past, the fan vote accounts for 50 percent of the vote to determine starters. The other 50 percent will be split by current players and a media panel. All-Star starters will be announced next week on Thursday, Jan. 25.

Here's everything you need to know about All-Star Game voting and the final returns before the official reveal.

If NBA All-Star voting ended today, fan-voted starters would be...

Trae Young Guard Stephen Curry
Giannis Antetokounmpo Frontcourt LeBron James
Joel Embiid Frontcourt Nikola Jokic
Jayson Tatum Frontcourt Kevin Durant

The tightest races for starting spots

Things are essentially set in the front court of each conference. Both Kevin Durant and Jayson Tatum have created significalt separation from the fourth-leading vote-getter in the West and East, respectively.

In the backcourt, however, things are pretty tight in the East and West.

While Luka Doncic (3,205,375) is far and away the leading vote-getter among West guards, Stephen Curry (2,616,154) holds a slight lead over Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (2,331,113). Gilgeous-Alexander may not have enough time to overcome the difference, but OKC's team success could factor in once the media and peer votes are weighed in.

It's a similar story in the East, where Tyrese Haliburton (2,718,973) has run away with the top spot. Trae Young (1,815,898) leaped into second place ahead of the second returns and holds his spot by less than 100,000 votes. Damian Lillard (1,730,036) comes in at third and has an opportunity to make up ground.

Also receiving votes

Among notable players also receiving votes are a trio of young frontcourt players in Alperen Sengun (1,345,996), Victor Wembanyama (601,208) and Chet Holmgren (422,330), the latter two being the only rookies to appear in any top 10.

Kings big man Domantas Sabonis overtook the 10th West frontcourt from Timberwolves forward Karl-Anthony Towns. In the backcourt, Austin Reaves is back in the top 10 after falling out during the second return.

Things remained largely the same in the Eastern Conference but Magic forward Paolo Banchero notably leaped over Julius Randle in the frontcourt. Banchero, who was named Rookie of the Year last season, will look to build on that with his first All-Star selection.
