Olympic triple-doubles
It's just the fourth time in Olympic history that a player has recorded a triple-double. James becomes the only player to accomplish the feat twice.
The last triple-double came during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics when Luka Doncic poured in 16 points, 10 rebounds and 18 assists against France. Alexander Belov was the first player to record a triple-double at the Olympics. He did so in 1976 for the Soviet Union against Canada.
Players may have tallied triple-doubles prior to Belov, but assists and rebounds were not "consistently tracked before the 1970s."
Year | Player | Team | Opponent | Points | Rebounds | Assists |
1976 | Alexander Belov | Soviet Union | Canada | 23 | 14 | 10 |
2012 | LeBron James | USA | Australia | 11 | 14 | 12 |
2021 | Luka Doncic | Slovenia | France | 16 | 10 | 18 |
2024 | LeBron James | USA | Serbia | 16 | 12 | 10 |
What is a triple-double in basketball?
A triple-double is when a player reaches double figures in three of the five counting stats. A triple-double can include any three-way combination of points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks.
The most common form of a triple-double is with points, rebounds and assists, but there have been other combinations to happen in professional basketball. Only the points-rebounds-assists combo has occurred at the Olympics.
Turnovers do not count toward official triple-doubles.
