Knicks NBA Playoffs history: When was the last time New York won a postseason series? image

The Knicks have achieved something that they haven't done in a decade.

After cruising past the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-1 in the first round of the 2023 NBA Playoffs, New York has won its first playoff series since the Carmelo Anthony era.

A decade of misfortune in Madison Square Garden has been complete with a seven-year playoff drought as well as a villain bringing an end to one of the franchise's most exciting seasons.

With a core featuring Jalen Brunson, Julius Randle, and RJ Barrett, the Knicks have reinvigorated their fanbase and look to make recent shortcomings a distant memory.

When was the last time the Knicks won a playoff series?

The Knicks' last playoff series win came in 2013 when they eliminated the Celtics in six games in the opening round of the postseason.

After its playoff appearance in 2013, New York experienced a lengthy postseason drought that didn't end until 2021, when it lost to Atlanta in five games in the opening round.

The Knicks' drought from 2013 to 2020 ties a dubious franchise high that was first set between 1959 and 1966.

When was the last time the Knicks won the NBA Finals?

The Knicks' most recent NBA Finals win came in 1973. Led by a balanced attack of Finals MVP Willis Reed, Bill Bradley, Dave DeBusschere, Walt Frazier and Earl Monroe, New York defeated the Lakers in five games

New York's other NBA Finals victory came in 1970 when it defeated the Lakers in seven games thanks to Reed's heroics.

In the 50 years since the Knicks' last Finals win, the franchise made two more Finals appearances, losing to the Rockets in 1994 and losing to the Spurs in 1999.
