Two of the best at bantamweight face off for gold at UFC 292 on August 19 when Aljamain Sterling defends the UFC bantamweight title against Sean O’Malley.

Both look to prove their value in front of a passionate fanbase at the TD Garden in Boston. The fight will air on ESPN+ PPV in the U.S.

Sterling beat Petr Yan via DQ in 2021 to win the title after being struck by an illegal knee to the face. He then defeated Yan via split decision in his first defense and followed up with wins over T.J. Dillashaw and Henry Cejudo.

A Dana White’s Contender Series standout, O’Malley beat Yan via controversial decision to earn a title shot. “Sugar” is 4-0 with one no-contest since 2021. Confident in his abilities, O’Malley and Sterling have been at a war of words as of late. Still, O’Malley can’t help but give Sterling his props.

“I’m fighting a prime bantamweight GOAT right now,” O’Malley told Bloody Elbow via Yahoo Sports. “He’s the best bantamweight UFC has ever had. He’s defended the belt more than anyone. He’s in his prime. He just beat Henry Cejudo, who’s a two-time division champion. So yeah, it’s an exciting, difficult challenge that I’m excited to go out there and compete.”

The co-main event will see Zhang Weili defend the UFC strawweight title against Amanda Lemos. Zhang beat Jessica Andrade for the strawweight title but lost the belt to Rose Namajunas. In November, she regained the belt against Carla Esparza. Lemos is on a two-fight win streak and beat Marina Rodriguez in her last fight, also in November, via TKO.
