UFC 283 results: Jamahal Hill beats Glover Teixeira to win light heavyweight gold, Brandon Moreno wins gold and series vs. Deiveson Figueiredo image

Ranked seventh in the UFC’s light heavyweight division, many were surprised when Jamahal Hill was announced as a challenger for the vacant UFC light heavyweight title. However, Hill was confident in his own abilities, and looked to prove why he was meant to be the guy to represent the UFC.

With tears in his eyes, Jamahal Hill reached the top of the mountain at UFC 283. Hill beat former champion Glover Teixeira via unanimous decision to become the first Dana White’s Contender Series alum to win UFC gold.

UFC 283 took place inside Jeunesse Arena in Teixeira's home of Brazil. The scores read 50-44 across the board for Hill.

"From where I came from, to get to this, this is unreal," Hill stated. "Thank you! Anything is possible. Hard work, dedication, accountability. Don't let nobody tell you nothing. Too many people said I couldn't do it. It was impossible. I needed to win in one round, I couldn't go five. What the f--- you gotta say now?"

It was all-Hill throughout the bout. The Chicago-born fighter dominated with head kicks and quick shots to the face of a defenseless Teixeira, who was cut badly on top of his eye at one point. Hill's takedown defense was superb against the normally takedown-heavy Teixeira, who only landed two of 17 takedowns.

Hill used everything in his arsenal to halt any momentum on the part of Teixeira. He landed elbows, double-jabs, uppercuts, head kicks, kicks to the gut, and ground-based shots. Everything but the kitchen sink was used against Teixeira, who had a strong chin and soul despite fighting at a slow pace.

Hill landed 248 of 419 shots, while Teixeira landed 108 of 196. The former is now on a four-fight win streak

Following the fight, Teixeira retired, ending a career (33-9) that started in 2002.

"I think I'm too tough for my own good, I'm too tough for my own health... It's an honor to retire on the same night as Shogun Rua,” Teixeira stated.

In the co-main event, Brandon Moreno beat Deiveson Figueiredo via TKO to regain the UFC flyweight title. It was another unforgettable fight between the two rivals. In the third round, Moreno landed a clean shot to the face of Figueiredo that altered his eyesight. It was determined that Figueiredo could not continue, and the fight was called off in the third.
