MLB trade deadline tracker: News and updates of every deal on 2022 deadline day image

After a lot of hemming and hawing, the MLB trade deadline for 2022 has passed.

While we got the blockbuster everyone was waiting for, with Juan Soto and Josh Bell being moved to the Padres, a few players who most considered to be out the door ended up staying in Willson Contreras and Ian Happ.

While the Padres were the busiest bees, some teams -- such as the Twins and Braves -- were calculated in how they shored up their roster. The Twins improved their pitching at every point, whereas the Braves cleared a hole in their bullpen and backfilled appropriately.

The Mariners and Yankees landed the prized pitchers, securing Luis Castillo and Frankie Montas, respectively.

Aug. 2 - Deadline Day

Braves swoop late for Angels closer Raisel Iglesias

The defending World Series champions made a late splash, as Robert Murray reported the Braves are acquiring Angels closer Raisel Iglesias for Jesse Chavez and Tucker Davidson.

Cubs' Contreras and Happ, Giants' Rodon, Red Sox' Martinez among those staying put

Several players reportedly on the trading block the last few weeks did not get moved, most notably Willson Contreras and Ian Happ of the Cubs, who were emotional last week as they played what they thought would be their final game at Wrigley FIeld as members of the Cubs.

Also staying put are Carlos Rodon and Joc Pederson with the Giants and J.D. Martinez with the Red Sox.

Whit Merrifield headed to Toronto after sitting out series there due to vaccination status

The Royals are trading Whit Merrifield to the Blue Jays, of all teams, even though he missed Kansas City's trip to Toronto a few weeks ago because he has not received a COVID-19 vaccine.

"Right or wrong, I didn't do it on a whim," he told reporters then about his decision not to get vaccinated. "It's been a long thought process, because I understand what Canada has in place right now. That's the only reason that I would think about getting it right now, is to go to Canada," Merrifield said. "Something happens and I happen to get on a team that has a chance to go play in Canada in the postseason, maybe that changes."

Mets add bullpen piece in Cubs' Givens

Right-hander Mychal Givens will reunite with Buck Showalter, as he heads to the Mets with a "low-level prospect" headed back to the Cubs, Joel Sherman reports

Cardinals get Jordan Montgomery from Yankees for Harrison Bader

The Cardinals will get another pitcher in Jordan Montgomery from the Yankees for centerfielder Harrison Bader, per Robert Murray.

Phillies close Syndergaard deal

The Phillies will get Syndergaard for Mickey Moniak and outfield prospect Jadiel Sanchez, Jayson Stark reports.

Blue Jays reportedly acquiring Mitch White from Dodgers

The Toronto Blue Jays lost out for Syndergaard, and instead get back-end rotation Mitch White from the Dodgers. White has started 10 games this year, and he has an ERA of 3.70. He's a good get for Toronto, ultimately. Robert Murray with the report.

The Jays also get minor league infielder Alex De Jesus in the deal and are sending minor league pitchers Nick Frasso and Moises Brito to the Dodgers.

Phillies nearing deal for Noah Syndergaard

The Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly close to a deal for Noah Syndergaard, per Ken Rosenthal. The Blue Jays may be out on the deadline at this point.

Twins get another reliever in Michael Fulmer from Tigers

The Minnesota Twins are getting another reliever in Michael Fulmer from the Detroit Tigers. Detroit is getting Sawyer Gipson-Long from the Twins, per Mark Feinsand.

Yankees reportedly back in on Pablo Lopez

The Marlins have seemed reticent to deal Pablo Lopez at this deadline, but the Yankees have reemerged as a suitor. They're reportedly talking prospects with the Marlins, per Jon Heyman. According to Joel Sherman, the Yankees are concerned about their rotation with Luis Severino returning soon.

Mariners get Jake Lamb from Dodgers for cash

According to Robert Murray, the Mariners are acquiring infielder Jake Lamb from the Dodgers for cash considerations. He didn't have much of a path in the Dodgers organization, even as a type of player they gravitate to.

Blue Jays and Phillies last ones in on Noah Syndergaard

With most of the viable starters off the trade block, Noah Syndergaard is a hotter commodity than he has been. The Blue Jays and Phillies are reportedly the last ones in on Thor, as they try to bolster their rotations. Report via Jon Morosi.

Brewers add bullpen help in Trevor Rosenthal

The Brewers have acquired veteran bullpen pitcher Trevor Rosenthal from the Giants, per Jon Heyman.

Twins trade for Guardians catching prospect Sandy Leon

This is kind of a weird one. The Twins have traded for Guardians catching prospect Sandy Leon, dealing righty Ian Hamilton, who hasn't found a place within the Twins org in his third MLB stint.

Mariners acquire Matt Boyd from Giants

It's a few years late, but the Giants traded Matt Boyd to the Mariners, per Jon Heyman. Return is as of yet unknown.

Mariners, Giants reportedly swap wild card players

The Mariners and Giants have made a small move, per Robert Murray. The Mariners will get catcher Curt Casali, whereas the Giants get reliever Michael Stryffeler.

Padres not sitting around, pick up Brandon Drury from Reds

You would think the Padres would be done after emptying the farm system for Soto, but why stop there? They're also adding to the infield, trading No. 6 prospect Victor Acosta to the Reds for Brandon Drury, per Ken Rosenthal.

Twins close deal on Tyler Mahle for three top-30 prospects

The Twins and Reds agreed to a deal for pitcher Tyler Mahle, with Minnesota sending over three top-30 prospects in Spencer Steer (No. 7), Steve Hajjar (No. 18), and Christian Encarnacion-Strand (No. 23).

It's a hefty return for Mahle, but with another year of control on a good starting pitcher, it's a good trade for both sides.

Mets pick up Darin Ruf from Giants for JD Davis, prospects

The Mets have been somewhat surprisingly quiet so far this deadline, but they did add another bat in Darin Ruf from the Giants, who might be starting to raise the white flag in the NL Wild Card race. They'll get JD Davis in the return, who has struggled this season, and two A-ball pitchers from the Mets, per Joel Sherman.

Phillies reportedly get David Robertson from Cubs

The Phillies bullpen has been relatively solid this year, but you can always use another arm. To that end, they're reportedly acquiring reliever David Robertson from the Chicago Cubs, per Jeff Passan. Details on return haven't emerged yet, but Ben Brown is involved.

Twins working toward deal with Reds for Tyler Mahle

With Luis Castillo already in Seattle, the Reds have been fielding calls for pitcher Tyler Mahle. Mahle. The Twins are among the frontrunners in that realm, per Trent Rosencrans.

Phillies getting OF Brandon Marsh from Angels

The Phillies entered the deadline with a serious need at centerfield, and they appear to have found their guy in Angels outfielder Brandon Marsh, per Robert Murray. Mike Trout, of course, takes up all of the real estate in center when he's healthy, but Marsh should immediately take Odubel Herrera's spot in center.

The Angels, for their part, are getting Phillies No. 3 prospect Logan O'Hoppe, per Murray. O'Hoppe is a catcher and is highly thought of by the Phillies.

Luke Voit reportedly heading to Nationals to finalize Soto deal

According to Jeff Passan, the Padres have DH Luke Voit heading to Washington to finalize the Soto deal after Hosmer bowed out of the previous agreement. Final return: MacKenzie Gore, C.J. Abrams, Robert Hassell III, James Wood, Jarlin Susana, and Voit.

Blue Jays interested in Noah Syndergaard, Phillies going against type and inquiring

The Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly pushing for Angels starter Noah Syndergaard, who would be a potential rental. He hasn't worked out in Los Angeles to date, but could be a solid back-end starter down the stretch.

According to Jon Heyman, the Phillies are also in on Syndergaard, but it isn't characteristic of Dave Dombrowski to pursue rentals.

A quick lay of the land

Among big moves: Luis Castillo has gone to the Mariners, Frankie Montas is on the Yankees, Juan Soto and Josh Bell are Padres in one of the most substantial deadline moves in MLB history, Josh Hader is a Padre as well in a surprise deal, and Jose Quintana has gone to the Cardinals while Trey Mancini is now an Astro.

Among dominoes to still fall, teams are sniffing around Carlos Rodon of the Giants and Pablo Lopez of the Marlins. The Cubs are still likely entertaining suitors for Willson Contreras and Ian Happ. And the Orioles might not be done selling after unloading Mancini and Jorge Lopez (Twins).

Phillies among teams interested in Carlos Rodon

The Phillies still need a centerfielder, but rotation help is also a must for them. Susan Slusser says Philadelphia is making a play for starter Carlos Rodon from the Giants, with the Twins and Cardinals also in play. The Giants have waffled between wanting to be buyers and sellers at this deadline.

Eric Hosmer gets dealt, but not to the Nationals

Eric Hosmer being moved was an inevitability after he nixed his trade to the Nationals, and it happened quickly with a move to the Red Sox. The first baseman will likely still be paid by the Padres, but moving him clears a roster spot and the Padres are no strangers to spending at this point. Ken Rosenthal is on the murky financials.

Yankees get top 15 Dodgers prospect for Joey Gallo

The Yankees have accomplished most of their deadline goals. They got bullpen help, they got a starter, and now they've offloaded Joey Gallo. Gallo, who has been a massive misstep since the Yankees traded for him at last year's deadline, went for No. 15 Dodgers prospect Clayton Beeter.

Beeter's extensive medical history has dampened his value overtime, but he's a decent get for a player the Yankees were simply trying to get off the books after trading for Andrew Benindendi.

Blue Jays sending No. 4 prospect to Marlins for Anthony Bass, Zach Pop

The Blue Jays are bolstering their bullpen, trading shortstop Jordan Groshans to the Marlins for Anthony Bass and Zach Pop (along with another possible player). The veteran Bass has posted an ERA of 1.41 in 45 games this season, and has an impressive ERA+ of 290. Pop, meanwhile, is in just his second season and has a 3.60 ERA in 18 games with the Marlins.

Eric Hosmer out of Padres Soto deal

It looks like Eric Hosmer is actually going to stay a Padre. While it was initially reported Hosmer would be heading to Washington in the deal to acquire Soto, he exercised his no-trade clause to stay in San Diego, per Mark Feinsand. That means the return for Soto and Josh Bell is MacKenzie Gore, C.J. Abrams, Robert Hassell III, James Wood, and Jarlin Susana.

Dodgers reportedly in on Ian Happ, David Robertson while Mets want Robertson and Willson Contreras after Soto trade

The Los Angeles Dodgers missed out on Soto, and now the Cubs are the belle of the ball. Per Mark Feinsand, the Dodgers are in on outfielder Ian Happ and reliever David Robertson from the Cubs, but they're getting a lot of competition. The Mets are pushing for Willson Contreras and Robertson. Ultimately, the Cubs and Jed Hoyer should be the most popular team in baseball until 6 p.m.

Juan Soto saga comes to a close, Nationals deal star OF to Padres for haul of prospects/young players

Juan Soto has been the name the entire deadline, and with six hours left until the lines have to go dead, the Padres have acquired him and first baseman Josh Bell in a massive deal with Washington.

The Padres are sending Washington MacKenzie Gore, C.J. Abrams, No. 1 prospect Robert Hassell III, No. 3 prospect James Wood, No. 14 prospect Jarlin Susana, and Eric Hosmer for Soto and Bell.

Soto has 2.5 years left of arbitration and Bell is a free agent after this year. His market likely dried up after the Astros acquired Trey Mancini from the Orioles.

Twins get All-Star closer Jorge Lopez from Orioles

Minnesota moved to shore up its bullpen by trading four players to Baltimore for closer Jorge Lopez. An All-Star this season for the first time, Lopez has been brilliant for Baltimore with a 1.68 ERA and 19 saves in 44 appearances.

Jeff Passan was first to report the full return for the Orioles:

Multiple possible landing spots for Brett Phillips

While we might think some players will be traded before the deadline, it's a virtual certainty that Brett Phillips will be moved. The Rays designated him for assignment Monday and will need to trade him before 6 p.m. ET. Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times says the Yankees, Phillies, Brewers and Cubs are possibilities.

Three teams in mix to land Willson Contreras

The Rays, Mets and possibly the Padres are in the mix to land Cubs catcher Willson Contreras, Ken Rosenthal reports, though San Diego likely wouldn't have the capital to make the deal if it lands Juan Soto.

Padres best bet to land Juan Soto ... and maybe another Nat

The biggest name on deadline day remains Juan Soto, with the Padres, Dodgers and Cardinals believed to be the teams in contention to land the young Nationals megastar. Barry Svrluga of the Washington Post reports a "growing sense" that the Padres are the most likely to get a deal done. And it might not just be Soto making the coast-to-coast move. Svrluga says Nationals first baseman Josh Bell may be included in a potential deal as well.

Reds' Tyler Mahle drawing trade interest

Most of the top starting pitchers thought to be available (Luis Castillo, Frankie Montas, Jose Quintana) already have new homes, but a few more rotation pieces figure to be hot commodities on deadline day. Reds right-hander Tyler Mahle is one of them, and Jon Heyman reports the Twins and Phillies are among those interested in the 27-year-old.

Syndergaard a target for the Jays, Braves, Phillies, per reports

Thor could be coming to a ballpark near you.

Noah Syndergaard has been a solid, if unspectacular, pickup for the Angels. But because the Angels are the Angels, he could be on the move.

Per MLB Network's Jon Morosi, Syndergaard trade talks are intensifying, with the Blue Jays, Braves and Phillies all in the mix to get the behemoth of a pitcher.

Syndergaard has began to look more like himself in the past few months. After a spotty May where he gave up over five earned runs per game, Thor has notched back-to-back months with an ERA under 3.68.

He still throws gas. He still gets batters out. And he's looking likely to be moved by the end of the day Tuesday.

Braves staying aggressive at the deadline, acquire OF Grossman and pitcher Odorizzi in deals with Tigers, Astros

The defending World Series champions aren't resting on their laurels. With the Mets sitting at the top of the NL East, Atlanta is moving aggressively at the deadline.

According to The Athletic's Cody Stavenhagen, the Braves reeled in Tigers OF Robbie Grossman. Atlanta sent prospect pitcher Kris Anglin in the other direction to make the move work.

Grossman has had a less than ideal season, hitting just .205 in a little over 300 at-bats. However, at his best, Grossman can work counts and get on base with the best of them — his walk rate 14.6 percent last year put him in the 99th percentile among MLB batters, according to Baseball Savant.

That wasn't all for the Braves, though. Per ESPN's Jeff Passan, they also acquired RHP Jake Odorizzi from the Astros, sending reliever Will Smith to Minute Maid Park. Odorizzi was fairly proficient with the 'Stros, putting up a 3.75 ERA and 3.62 FIP in 12 starts. He figures to slot into an already impressive rotation that features Max Fried, Kyle Wright, Ian Anderson and Charlie Morton.

Matt Bush headed to Milwaukee

A few hours after sending Josh Hader to San Diego, the Brewers got to retooling their bullpen. Rangers' pitcher Matt Bush is headed to American Family Field, according to FanSided's Robert Murray.

Infielder Mark Mathias will head the other way.

Astros GM: 'We're not done'

It seems Houston plans to be active in the trade market. After acquiring Trey Mancini from the Orioles and Christian Vazquez from the Red Sox, general manager James Click told reporters that the Astros are far from finished acquiring talent.

Tarik Skubal expected to stay with Tigers, will teams move for Reds' Tyler Mahle?

Detroit starter Tarik Skubal had long been discussed as one of the more viable trade options for pitching desperate teams. However, according to the Detroit Free Press' Evan Petzold, Skubal won't be on the move.

The reason why? Left arm fatigue. Skubal left Detroit's clash with Minnesota after feeling some weariness in his left arm.

Per USA Today's Bob Nightingale, that could mean teams move for Reds' starter Tyler Mahle. As proven in the Tommy Pham trade, Cincy seems willing to sell if the price is right. Barring a late deal for Giants' star Carlos Rodon, it would appear Mahle is the best pitcher left in the trade market.

Jose Quintana swaps one NL Central team for another

St. Louis strengthened its rotation late Monday night, adding southpaw Jose Quintana from divisional rivals Pittsburgh.

Quintana has a 3.50 ERA in 20 starts this year and has sneakily been one of the better left-handed pitchers in baseball.

The Cards sent young pitcher Johan Oviedo and No. 9 prospect Malcom Nunez to the Pirates in exchange for Quintana.

Christian Vazquez package revealed

Houston gave up infielder Enmanuel Valdez and outfielder Wilyer Abreu to acquire Vazquez.

Valdez and Abreu were the No. 28 and No. 29 prospects in the 'Stros organization, respectively.

Royals, D-Backs agree to swap Emmanuel Rivera, Luke Weaver

In one of the more under-the-radar moves of trade deadline eve, the Royals dealt third baseman Emmanuel Rivera to the Diamondbacks. In return, Kansas City is bringing back right-handed pitcher Luke Weaver.

Rivera has been performing at about league average quality at the hot corner for much of the season. Meanwhile, Weaver was a key prospect in the deal that brought Paul Goldschmidt to St. Louis. Save for an impressive 12-game stretch in 2019, Weaver hasn't really done much of anything in his major league career.

His ERA of 7.71 is unappealing. But the peripherals suggest there is still something to like about Weaver; he has a FIP of 2.69 in 12 games.

Either way, the Royals will likely not be good regardless.

Red Sox land Tommy Pham

Boston also landed serial slapper Tommy Pham from the Reds, sending back a prospect to be named later. Pham hasn't been brilliant this season, but hits the ball hard, walks a lot and has been fairly solid against left-handed pitching.

It's hard to see what Boston's directive is now, though. Are they blowing it up or retooling for a postseason run? It's anyone's guess...

Red Sox deal Christian Vazquez, bring in replacement catcher from White Sox

The Red Sox parted ways with longtime backstop Christian Vazquez, sending him to the Astros, per multiple reports. Although the return they received hasn't yet been revealed, Boston wasted little time finding another option at catcher, sending reliever Jake Diekman to the White Sox in exchange for Reese McGuire. McGuire, a former top-15 pick, has an OPS below .600 in 166 plate appearances this year.

Full Trey Mancini details

Per Jeff Passan, Mancini going to the Astros was a three-team affair. The Astros received Mancini and Jayden McMurray; the Orioles got No. 6 Rays prospect Seth Johnson and No. 12 Astros prospect Chayce McDermott; and the Rays landed centerfielder Jose Siri.

Astros land a first baseman in Trey Mancini

In another seemingly inevitable move, Trey Mancini has been traded from the Orioles. The power-hitting first baseman has been dealt to the Houston Astros for an unspecified return, per Dan Connolly.

Yankees finally make their move, land Frankie Montas and Lou Trivino for prospects

The Yankees knew they had to do something at this deadline, and they already missed out on Luis Castillo. They responded by getting arguably the 1b to Castillo's 1a on the starter market, trading away Ken Waldichuck, JP Sears, Cooper Bowman, and Luis Medina to the Athletics for Frankie Montas.

New York also bolstered its bullpen a bit after acquiring Scott Elfross earlier, picking up Lou Trivino in the deal. The numbers haven't borne out well for Trivino this year, but he's a decent risk for the Yankees to take on.

MORE: Frankie Montas trade grades: How did Yanks, A's fare?

Dodgers move pitcher Garrett Cleavinger to Rays for young outfielder

The Dodgers made a space-clearing move Monday, trading left-handed reliever Garrett Cleavinger to the Rays for 18-year-old outfielder German Tapia.

Tapia is currently hitting over .300 in his second season on the Rays' Dominican Summer League team, whereas Cleavinger has struggled in MLB but has pitched very well in Triple-A. The Rays will try to get some consistency out of him moving forward.

Brewers move Josh Hader to Padres for massive haul

The Milwaukee Brewers are moving on from Josh Hader after a tough July. They're dealing the All Star closer to the Padres for Taylor Rogers, Robert Gasser, Esteury Ruiz, and Dinelson Lamet.

The deal is interesting, as it doesn't give the Brewers any of the Padres' top prospects for a top-flight closer who will be a free agent after 2023. But it does give them some serious prospects in the Padres organization and another strong closer alongside Devin Williams, who has been outstanding.

MORE: Grading the trade that sent Josh Hader to the Padres

Angels holding onto Shohei Ohtani

The Angels are not going to move Shohei Ohtani at this year's deadline, according to Jon Heyman. Among the teams to make an offer were the New York Yankees, but ultimately it seems no one could match the Angels' requests.

Yankees add reliever Scott Effross to bolster bullpen

The Yankees didn't exactly make a splash with the deadline acquisition of Scott Effross, but they did bolster a bullpen that needed help. Despite a 1-4 record, Effross has an ERA+ of 158 in 44 innings with a 2.66 ERA. He's been a good part of the Cubs bullpen, he's young, and he has a lot of upside. While not the massive pickup Yankees fans want, he's a solid pitcher with good stuff.

Juan Soto trade saga may spill into offseason

The rumor mill is at a halt as the league tries to figure out what in the world it will take to acquire Soto. It seems like every team's top prospects are tied up in Soto negotiations, and Pat Ragazzo reported executives are now "pessimistic" about Soot being moved before the deadline. Once that domino falls, we'll likely see a flurry of activity as teams try to fill gaps.

Braves acquire an infielder, DFA Robinson Cano

The Braves made a quiet move on Monday, but the real addition is by subtraction. They traded outfielder Trey Harris for Nationals infielder Ehire Adrianza. Adrianza joining the roster allowed Atlanta to DFA Robinson Cano, who was essentially a warm body at second base for the Braves in his brief tenure there. It's hard to imagine Adrianza will be the last move they make.

Phillies looking to add a centerfielder

It shouldn't surprise anyone looking at Odubel Herrera's play this season that the Phillies are shopping for centerfielders. According to Jon Heyman, Ramon Laureano would be the top option but he may not be moved at all, while Jackie Bradley Jr. and Michael A. Bradley are also in play.

July 31

Three teams still in on Soto; Washington may keep star

According to Jim Bowden, the Padres, Cardinals and Dodgers remain in the hunt for Juan Soto as the deadline nears. USA Today's Bob Nightengale adds that Washington may opt to keep Soto through the end of the 2022 season if the price isn't met.

Soto is under team control through 2024, so Washington might not feel urgency to move on from their biggest star in the meantime.

Reds' Brandon Drury drawing serious interest around the league

A good utility man can make a world of a difference for teams competing for playoff contention. And there aren't many better utility men in MLB than the Reds' Brandon Drury.

According to Jon Morosi, the Reds' do-it-all third baseman is getting some serious looks from around the league, with the Dodgers, Braves and Mariners all reportedly checking in on what it would take to get him.

Drury has an OPS+ of 129 and has been one of the few bright spots in the mess that has been Cincinnati's 2022 season. With a salary of just $900K, Drury can provide a lot of value at the plate while not fudging up the checkbook too much.

For many teams, that's too good to pass up.

Willson Contreras 'ready for this to be over'

It seems the weight of recent trade rumors is getting to Willson Contreras. The Cubs' backstop told reporters that he felt that Sunday's game — a 4-0 loss to the Giants — felt like his last game with the franchise.

The Cubs have an off day before taking on the Cards in a three-game series. It seems highly unlikely that Contreras will be on Chicago's roster by then.

Soto unlikely to join Yankees

The Yanks' seemed one of the top candidates to acquire Juan Soto after news broke indicating the Nationals were shopping him around. Per Jon Heyman, that's not the case though.

There is "no traction" in trade talks between the Pinstripers and Nats, according to Heyman. It seems if Soto does end up on another team, it won't be the Yankees, no matter how much the organization desires him.

Teams trying to acquire JD Martinez will have to throw the kitchen sink at Boston

JD Martinez is one of the game's best designated hitters. With the Red Sox sitting at the bottom of the AL East, he could be on the market. However, for any team looking to bring in the 34-year old, it's going to cost multiple assets.

Per Sports Illustrated's Pat Ragazzo, Martinez will cost teams at least one top prospect, an MLB player and additional assets in the form of money or another player.

Boston doesn't quite seem ready to blow it up just yet, unless they get a wild beneficial deal for them.

A's, Guardians engaged in talks regarding a potential deal for Sean Murphy

One name flying under the radar in trade deadline talks is Oakland backstop Sean Murphy. Murphy, 27, doesn't seem to quite fit Oakland's timeline given their commitment to selling off all their assets.

And apparently, Murphy has received some interest from Cleveland, who hope to add an offensive upgrade behind the plate. Per The Athletic's Zack Meisel, Terry Francona's squad has contacted the Athletics about their catcher.

Austin Hedges is hitting just .176, while Murphy has a 113 OP+. You can certainly see why.

Nonetheless, with a contract running until 2025, it makes sense why Cleveland is targeting Murphy. One to watch for for sure in the coming few hours.

Bryan Reynolds expected to stay with the Pirates

It seems the Bucs are keeping hold of Bryan Reynolds for the foreseeable future. Jon Heyman reported that Reynolds appears slated to stay in the black-and-gold until the season ends.

With another year of team control, Reynolds was one of the top candidates to be dealt at the deadline. The Yankees reportedly had heavy interest in the Pirates centerfielder, who finished 11th in NL MVP voting last year. However, he looks to be a part of Pittsburgh's future for at least a little while longer.

Brewers 'seem willing to listen to offers' for Josh Hader

One unexpected name that made the rounds on Sunday ahead of the trade deadline; Brewers' closer Josh Hader. Per Jon Heyman, multiple teams have called Milwaukee testing the waters on a potential deal for Hader.

Heyman did add that there was "no indication" that the Brewers were actively shopping around Hader. However, after a strong start to the season, Milwaukee's All-Star has struggled in the past month, posting a 12.54 ERA, perhaps pushing the Brewers' brass to look for a potential upgrade. Only time will tell, though.

Yankees, Blue Jays and Cardinals all interested in A's ace Frankie Montas

Frankie Montas, the best starter left on the market after Luis Castillo was traded to the Mariners, is being eyed by three teams, per Jon Morosi: The Yankees, Blue Jays and Cardinals.

Montas has another year of team control, adding another benefit to any deal done.

July 30

Padres willing to discuss Abrams, Hassell, Morejón in potential Soto deal

The Padres are stepping up their pursuit for Nats' star Juan Soto. According to MLB Network's Jon Morosi, the Friars may be willing to part ways with talented youngsters C.J. Abrams, Robert Hassell III and Adrian Morejon in a deal for Soto.

Abrams and Morejon are members of the big league squad despite being just 21 and 23 years old, respectively. Hassell, meanwhile, is the No. 20 prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline.

Red Sox taking offers for vets not including Bogaerts

It has been a torrid season for the Red Sox, who sit at the bottom of the AL East. That means changes may be likely, according to NY Post's Jon Heyman.

Nathan Eovaldi, J.D. Martinez and Christian Vasquez would be among the highest-profile names that Boston could move. One player who will not be moving, though, is Xander Bogaerts. The Aruban is putting together another monster season, hitting .315/.389/.458. Bogaerts does have an opt-out clause in his deal after the season, though.

Giants willing to sell veterans, including Pederson and Rodon

According to NY Post's Jon Heyman, the Giants are open to dealing some of their veterans.

It's been a largely frustrating season for San Francisco, who sit two games under .500 — a world away from their 107-win season in 2021.

The Giants have a pair of coveted assets in ace Carlos Rodon and slugger Joc Pederson. Rodon has earned back-to-back All-Star appearances, while Pederson has an .811 OPS in 87 games. With a playoff push looking unlikely, it'll be interesting to see what kind of return San Fran is looking for.

Mets hesitant to deal for Contreras; Padres, Rays, and Astros also in play

The New York Mets need help behind the plate, and per Jon Heyman, they're seeking it in the form of Cubs catcher Willson Contreras. Eppler, however, is reportedly hesitant to give up what it would take to get Contreras. The Astros and Rays are also in play with a similar need, with the Padres confusingly also in the mix.

Padres, Cardinals perceived frontrunners to land Juan Soto

As we march toward Tuesday, the biggest question being asked is what in the world is going to happen with Juan Soto. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Padres and Cardinals are the frontrunners to land the superstar outfielder. According to Rosenthal, A.J. Preller in particular may be willing to give up whatever it takes to land Soto.

Rays acquire OF David Peralta from Diamondbacks for catching prospect

The Tampa Bay Rays made a move Saturday, picking up outfielder David Peralta from the Diamondbacks in order to help them on the offensive side of the ball in the absence of Harold Ramirez and Wander Franco. They gave up catching prospect Christian Cerda in the move,

Dodgers acquire P Chris Martin from Cubs for utility man Zach McKinstry

In another smaller move, the Dodgers are getting Cubs pitcher Chris Martin for utility man Zach McKinstry.

Martin, who was signed this season as a potential deadline trade piece, has appeared in 34 games this season and posted an ERA of 4.31. McKinstry, meanwhile, is a quad-A type who hasn't panned out as previous utility men in Dodger Blue. He'll offer flexibility for the Cubs on defense, but his bat isn't going to be turning a lot of heads.

Phillies trade LHP JoJo Romero to Cardinals for IF Edmundo Sosa

The Phillies are adhering to the old adage "defense wins championships, trading for stellar infielder Edmundo Sosa. They're sending pitcher JoJo Romero to the Cardinals in the deal, who has appeared in 25 career games and has an ERA of 13.5 in two appearances this season.

Rockies sign Daniel Bard to two-year extension, take him off-market

Grand opening, grand closing. Bard is now off the market, with the Rockies reportedly agreeing to a two-year extension worth $19 million with the 37-year-old closer.

David Bednar of the Pirates is now the most likely target for closer-needy teams.

Colorado Rockies unlikely to deal C.J. Cron or Daniel Bard

Who are the Colorado Rockies? It's unlikely even they know. Reportedly, the Rockies won't be dealing first baseman C.J. Cron or closer Daniel Bard. With the Kris Bryant signing not giving great early returns and Colorado last in the NL West, one might think they'd be interested in selling. But they don't seem interested in giving up their two most valuable assets, according to The Athletic's Nick Groke.

Mariners acquire ace RHP Luis Castillo from Reds

Seattle grabs the top starter on the market, but at a heavy cost. It sends high-end prospects Noelvi Marte, Edwin Arroyo and Levi Stoudt, plus minor league right-hander Andrew Moore, to Cincinnati.

Athletics, Brewers discussing deal involving CF Ramon Laureano

The Oakland Athletics and Milwaukee Brewers are reportedly discussing a deal involving veteran centerfielder Ramon Laureano. Right now, Milwaukee is using Tyrone Taylor and Jonathan Davis in center day to day, so Laureano would provide some consistency in center. Laureano is currently hitting .224 with an OPS of .701 for the A's.

Phillies in on Guardians starting pitcher Zach Plesac, others as well

The Philadelphia Phillies are expressing interest in Guardians starting pitcher Zach Plesac, according to Jon Heyman. They're undoubtedly, however, hardly the only ones. Plenty of other teams are also looking for starting pitching, and with only one Luis Castillo and one Frankie Montas, Plesac is firmly on a tier with Jose Quintana and Chad Kuhl as a nice-to-have option.

Who's in and who's out on Juan Soto?

Bob Nightengale reported there are four teams with competitive Juan Soto offers heading into the weekend: The Mariners, Dodgers, Padres, and Cardinals. All of these teams are in a place to make a playoff push this season and they all have incredibly deep farm systems, so it could be a case of "makes sense." But never rule out a dark horse team to come in and offer something crazy.

Astros, Dodgers in on Marlins 1B Garrett Cooper

Interestingly, the Astros and Dodgers are among the teams who have called about Marlins 1B Garrett Cooper. From reports, it sounded like the Astros were making a strong push for Josh Bell, so either those talks sputtered or they're doing due diligence. The Dodgers, of course, have Freddie Freeman at first, so they're looking for a DH option. According to Ari Alexander, the Marlins are reticent to deal Cooper.

Shohei Ohtani: 'Right now, I'm an Angel'

The Angels superstar told reporters after his 11-strikeout mound performance Thursday night that winning each day's game is always the priority, whether that's in LA or somewhere else. "I'm with the Angels right now, and I'm very thankful for what they've done. I love my team and my teammates. Right now, I'm an Angel, and that's all I can focus on at this point," he said through his interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara (per MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger).

Xander Bogaerts says Red Sox have told him he won't be traded

Bogaerts made that disclosure Thursday, telling reporters (including Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald) he has been assured by the front office that he won't be dealt at the deadline. The shortstop can opt out of his six-year. $120 million contract at the end of the season.

Mets make trade for left-handed-hitting outfielder, left-handed reliever

The Mets added a couple depth pieces for a playoff run, adding outfielder Tyler Naquin and reliever Phillip Diehl from the Reds in exchange for two minor-leaguers: right-handed pitcher Jose Acuna and second baseman Hector Rodriguez.

Angels 'listening on everyone' except Mike Trout, and they have their ears covered on Shohei Ohtani

The Los Angeles Angels aren't in postseason contention, but they don't want to punt on their core just yet. Although Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman of the New York Post report they're "listening on everyone," they're likely not dealing their two most valuable players. Mike Trout is borderline immovable and Shohei Ohtani talks aren't getting much, if any, traction.

Yankees not 'currently at the forefront' of Juan Soto talks

According to Jon Heyman, the Yankees made their move for Andrew Benintendi because they aren't in the best position to land Soto. The Padres, Cardinals, Dodgers, and Rangers all have prospects who fit the Nationals better, and may also have MLB talent they can reasonably throw in.

Daniel Bard drawing significant interest

Rockies closer Daniel Bard is shaping up to be a popular closer band-aid, from Mark Feisand. He may or may not be dealt, but the Rockies are apparently listening to offers.

AL Central teams looking to shore up pitching

The Guardians, Twins, and White Sox are all among the most active teams in the pitching market, according to Mark Feisand. All of them have a competitive shot at the AL Central this season.

Luis Castillo still likely to be moved, some execs think Reds may hold on

ESPN's Buster Olney said the Reds are still progressing in trade talks with Luis Castillo, but some people think the Reds may choose to hang onto him. Although that's unlikely, never say never.

Padres frontrunners to land Soto

According to Buster Olney, as of Thursday morning the Padres are the frontrunners in the eyes of some executives to land Juan Soto. What that package would look like is unclear, but the Padres have the prospects (and potentially MLB talent) to get a deal done.

Cardinals putting on press in Juan Soto talks

The Cardinals reportedly don't want to trade both Jordan Walker and Masyn Winn for Juan Soto, so Nolan Gorman's name is beginning to come up in talks, according to Jeff Jones. The Cardinals were considered frontrunners for Soto, but in addition, Patrick Corbin and his bad contract keep bubbling up, despite Nationals GM Mike Rizzo saying they wouldn't diminish Soto's trade value by attaching a "bad contract" (e.g. Corbin) to the deal.

Yankees acquire OF Andrew Benintendi for pitching prospects

The Yankees traded pitching prospects Chandler Champlain, Beck Way, and T.J. Sikkema to the Royals for outfielder Andrew Benintendi, per YES's Jack Curry. They check off one item on their deadline list, but still need to offload Joey Gallo and add an arm. While this doesn't necessarily preclude them from the Juan Soto race (they didn't give up any of the prospects they'd need to get that deal done), it does likely square them away in management's eyes.

Guardians open to dealing controlled starters in their rotation

It's business as usual in Cleveland. ESPN's Jeff Passan reports names like Zach Plesac and Aaron Civale, two controllable pitchers on the big league roster, are being shopped. He added Shane Bieber also has a finger on the block, but the price would be immense.

Yankees, White Sox in on Jose Quintana

Among the teams with interest in Pirates pitcher Jose Quintana are the Yankees and the White Sox, according to Fansided's Robert Murray. The latter team traded Quintana to Pittsburgh in order to acquire Eloy Jimenez, but needs an arm once again. The Yankees, meanwhile, likely view Quintana as a "pull in case of emergency" chute if they can't land one of the marquee arms on the market.

Mets have inquired about Shohei Ohtani

Mets GM Billy Eppler has inquired with the Angels about the availability of Shohei Ohtani, according to Jim Bowden of CBS Sports. Ohtani, of course, would likely command a Soto-esque (at least) return. Eppler was the GM of the Angels when Ohtani signed in Los Angeles.

Nationals' Soto demands 'asinine and ridiculous'

ESPN's Jeff Passan reports the Nationals aren't making much headway in Juan Soto talks because of their "asinine and ridiculous" demands in return. Soto, a 23-year-old superstar, was always going to command a huge return, but right now, it seems as if the Nationals' asking price is wildly unreasonable.

Red Sox open to dealing J.D. Martinez

The Red Sox are coming off a disastrous weekend, and they look like they're at least entertaining selling at the deadline. J.D. Martinez is primed to become a free agent after this season, and ESPN's Buster Olney reports Boston is at least open to the possibility of trading him at the deadline. Martinez is batting over .300 on the season, and any contender would welcome him as a right-handed-hitting addition to the order.

Tigers willing to trade Tarik Skubal

The Tigers appear to be in sell mode to a degree no one anticipated. Per Ken Rosenthal's sources, struggling Detroit has made left-hander Tarik Skubal and "just about everyone" available at the deadline, indicating the team's offseason optimism was short-lived.
