Yankees manager Aaron Boone has been ejected twice in a week. He won't get the chance for No. 3 on Friday night, thanks to a one-game suspension from MLB.
Bench coach Carlos Mendoza will manage the club for the start of a weekend series against the Padres at Yankee Stadium.

Boone's Yankees are third in the American League East with a 30-22 record. They trail the division-leading Rays by seven games and are barely holding onto a wild-card spot. Now they'll be in a familiar spot: playing without their manager, whose temper has been on full display in 2023.
The Sporting News looks at why Boone won't be in the dugout Friday night:
Why was Aaron Boone suspended?
MLB said Friday that Boone was suspended for his "recent conduct" toward umpires. The Yankees skipper has earned a reputation lately for being fiery, especially when it comes to arguing ball-strike calls against Aaron Judge.
MLB's suspension dings Aaron Boone for "his recent conduct toward Major League Umpires, including the actions following his ejection from Thursday night’s game against the Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium."

So it's more than just last night.
Boone believes that Judge is umpired differently than other players because of his size and that the superstar's strike zone is unfair. Arguing balls and strikes earns managers a one-way ticket back to the clubhouse, but that hasn't deterred Boone in 2023.

Thursday night, the manager was ejected for, among other things, appearing to spit on home plate umpire Edwin Moscoso, who told Boone after their nose-to-nose argument, "You spit in my face."
Can read Boone's lips there. Said HP ump Edwin Moscoso called four balls that were strikes.

Also during the argument, Moscoso said Boone spit on his face. https://t.co/NjnqM2P6XN
