Seize the Grey seized the day, winning the 2024 Preakness Stakes.
After failing to qualify for the Kentucky Derby, Seize the Grey came into the second leg of the Triple Crown as an underdog. Closing at 9-1 odds, the winning horse was an afterthought before Saturday's race began.
Those who took a flier on Seize the Grey were quickly rewarded. The grey horse was shot out of a cannon right out of the gate, jumping out to an early lead that he wouldn't surrender.
Jockey Jaime Torres led his horse to a wire-to-wire victory, as Seize the Grey held off a late push from 2024 Kentucky Derby winner and Preakness Stakes favorite Mystik Dan to pull off a shocking win.

Seize the Grey owner
Seize the Grey is owned by MyRacehorse, which sells micro-shares in thoroughbred horses to the public. As a result, 2,570 people from 42 out of the 50 states own at least one share in the Preakness Stakes winner.
MyRacehorse founder and CEO Michael Behrens bought Seize the Grey for $300,000 at the 2022 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling Sale.
"This is the race I’ve wanted to win for 2,570 people," Behrens said after Saturday's win.
Seize the Grey trainer
Seize the Grey's trainer is horse racing Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas.
Prior to Seize the Grey, Lukas' most recent winner in the Preakness Stakes was Oxbow, who won the 2013 edition of the race. Lukas has seven wins in the race, held annually at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, one shy of the record held by trainer Bob Baffert.
Seize the Grey jockey
Jaime Torres led Seize the Grey on the track as his jockey.
The 25-year-old fell in love with horse racing after watching a 2019 race in Puerto Rico. He went to jockey school in 2022, and two years later, Torres won the Preakness Stakes — his first Triple Crown victory.
