Tiger Woods' score: Complete Round 1 results, highlights from 2024 U.S. Open image

Tiger Woods enjoyed an uneven first day at Pinehurst — the site of this year's U.S. Open — on Thursday. The 15-time major winner hasn't fared too kindly at the U.S. Open over the past decade and a half, advancing into the weekend just one time since 2014.

It was easy to see why on Thursday. Woods showcased glimpses of the golfer of old, particularly during the early holes when he found the fairways and putting lawns with regularity.

As the day wore on, though, Woods began to falter. It wasn't for a lack of trying. Woods continued his trend of placing shot after shot on the fairway, giving himself solid foundations to rack up some decent scores.

But his putting was a bit undercooked at times. And his approach play — one of his biggest strengths at his pomp — wasn't precise enough to set up easy par and birdie putts.

The result? A +4 showing in Round 1, a performance that placed him closer to the bottom of the leaderboard than the top of it.

None of the golfers featured in Woods group — neither him, Will Zalatoris or Matt Fitzpatrick — performed particularly well. Woods' fall off was perhaps the most glaring, however: after going -1 through his first five holes, Woods clanked bogeys in six of his last 11 apparatuses.

He still has a shot at make it underneath the cut line — it currently lies at +2. But he'll need a little help to get it done.

The Sporting News tracked  live updates from Woods' display at the 2024 U.S. Open. Below are highlights and live results from Woods' exploits during Round 1 of the tournament at Pinehurst.

Tiger Woods results, highlights from Round 1 at 2024 U.S. Open

(All times Eastern)

Hole 9, Par 3

Woods ends his first day at Pinehurst with a par. He finishes off his first round with a +4 (73).

Hole 8, Par 4

And back to the drawing board. Woods racks up another bogey, his sixth of the day. That will bring hiss score back down to +4, an unenviable figure.

Hole 7, Par 4

Another par for Woods! Perhaps he has actually found his rhythm after a torrid start to the front nine.

Hole 6, Par 4

After falling behind early with a second shot into the bunker and a third shot that strayed the hole quite a bit, Woods recovers with an impressive putt from distance to keep his place at +3.

Hole 5, Par 4

Perhaps Woods found his footing here? Just sank his birdie putt with relative ease as he cuts down on his score, which now drops back to+3.

Hole 4, Par 4

Woods was on fire with his putting earlier in the day. However, he's lost his touch over the past few holes. Yet another error leads to a bogey, one that will bring his score to +4. Just six holes remaining for Woods today. Let's see if he can pull himself closer to even.

Hole 3, Par 4

Woods finds a way to get back on track, sinking his putt to stay at +2.

Hole 2, Par 4

Woods' bogeys have started to accumulate. He's forced to settle for a +1 once more, bringing his score to +3 on the day

Hole 1, Par 4

Shot 5: The doldrums continue for Woods, who taps in for bogey once again. That's his fourth of the past five holes. Fortunately, today's round has been challenging on the whole — just 13 players sit under par at present.

Shot 2: It's these in-between efforts that have caused Woods issues at times today.

Shot 1: Woods drops yet another effort into the gleaming bucket that is the fairway once more.

Hole 18, Par 4

Shot 4: Woods returns to form with a positive result on Hole No. 18, sinking his fourth shot for par.

Shot 1: Woods hits the fairway once more, this time to start Hole No. 18.

Hole 17, Par 3

Shot 4: Woods taps in for par.

Shot 3: Woods starting to show some cracks. Misses out on par after seeing his attempt fall way short.

Shot 2: Woods second effort strays wide. He's within striking range for par. But it's no certainty, either.

Shot 1: First attempt finds the green for Woods on the Par-3. He'll have some work to do if he wants the birdie. But it's not impossible.

Hole 16, Par 4

Shot 5: Woods taps in for bogey.

Shot 4: Woods falls just short of par, seeing his attempt skew ever so slightly wide of the target.

Shot 3: Woods gets back on the green. He'll have yet another shot at par.

Shot 2: Woods uses the wedge to get himself out of danger, placing his attempt right back on the fairway.

Shot 1: Woods first effort finds the rough. One of only two real misfires by Woods, who has been pretty tight so far. We'll see if he can recover.

Hole 15, Par 3

Shot 3: Woods taps in for par...again.

Shot 2: All things considered, Shot No. 2 represented a win for Woods. He places his putt mere feet away from the hole, setting up a tap in on the third shot.

Shot 1: Woods places his shot on the putting green. It will take quite the effort to nab a birdie here. But a strong strike here could save par, at the minimum.

Hole 14, Par 4

Shot 4: Woods taps in for par.

Shot 3: Woods falls just short of birdie, seeing his effort roll up right to the edge of the cup, but fail to go in. He'll have to settle for par.

Shot 2: Woods makes his way to the putting green after a sumptuous effort on Shot No. 2.

Shot 1: Woods' tee shot dribbles calmly across the grass once more. His five tee shots have all landed on the fairway thus far.

Hole 13, Par 4

Shot 4: Four momentum putts so far for Woods. All four have hit the target. He drops a lengthy putt with relative ease to make par once more. Really solid start for Woods.

Shot 2: Deep second shot for Woods. The ball lands on the edge of the putting tee. He's got two shots to work with as he aims to maintain his positive record through four holes.

Hole 12, Par 4

Shot 4: What a recovery from Woods, who overcomes his spotty iron play on his second shot to put himself in position to save par. With the shadows draping across the green, Woods rattles home his effort to stay at -1 through three.

Shot 2: First mishit of the day for Woods. He drops his second shot off the hole into the bunker. He'll have his work cut out for him if he wants to save face...and par.

Shot 1: Another tee strike lands on the fairway for Woods. Three up, three down.

Hole 11, Par 4

Shot 4: Woods' second hole of the day ends in a par. Decent setup to put himself in position to save par. You need plays like that to get far in competitions like this.

Hole 10, Par 4

Shot 3: Strong start for Woods on Hole No. 10, as he sinks a putt from mid-range to nab a birdie. He is currently tied for the lead at this year's U.S. Open (through one hole, of course).
