The 2024 PGA Championship opened with a stacked, 156-man field full of golfers hoping to win the Wanamaker Trophy. Only about half will make it to the weekend.
The cut line is volatile heading into Saturday, but it isn't finalized just yet. The second round was suspended due to darkness, so there are a few golfers scheduled to finish their second round at the Valhalla Golf Club on Saturday.
Once that wraps up, Round 3 will commence.
A light Wednesday rain softened the course at Valhalla to make scoring conditions ideal. Xander Schauffele responded by breaking the course record and tying a major record with his 9-under round Thursday, and numerous other golfers took advantage of the course to compete with him.
Schauffele remains atop the leaderboard heading into Saturday, but his lead has shrunken. At 12-under, he has a one-stroke advantage over Collin Morikawa.
Here's what to know about the PGA Championship cut rules and where the cut line stands as the tournament's critical second day of play arrives.

PGA Championship cut rules
The PGA Championship has a 70-golfer cut line (plus ties). That is tied with the Open Championship for the largest among golf's four majors. Comparatively, the U.S. Open has a 60-player cut line (plus ties) while the Masters allows only its top 50 golfers (plus ties) to play the weekend.
There is no 10-shot rule at the PGA Championship either, so the cut line will not expand to include any player who is 10 or fewer shots behind the leader. The Masters became the last major to do away with that rule in 2020.
