Masters weather updates: Round 3 suspended due to inclement weather image

The Masters turned messy over the weekend, as biting cold weather front, coupled with a steady downpour of rain, made things all the more difficult for golfers taking part in the sport's grandest competition.

Forecasts looked bleak heading into Saturday's Round 3, prompting fans and players alike to bundle up and grip their effervescent umbrellas a little tighter come the afternoon. It's made for a high-scoring day, with numerous stars — including amateur Sam Bennett, Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth — all seing their scores drop precipitously amid the blustery conditions.

The rain is only expected to keep rearing its ugly head throughout the remainder of the round. Tournament organizers are already privy to the impact monsoon-like conditions can have on course play; after all, they were the ones who suspended play yesterday.

So, what's the latest on the weather from Augusta National? The Sporting News has you covered.

Masters weather updates

4:54 p.m.: Sunday start tomorrow. Looks like the show will go on this weekend, with Rounds 3 and 4 taking place tomorrow.

4:20 p.m.: A look at forecast for the rest of the day paints a bleak picture. Can't blame tournament organizers for calling it a wrap today on Round 3.

4:15 p.m.: Sunday's forecast calls for a lot more favorable conditions, with clear skies expected after 8 a.m. Temperatures will be nippy, but reasonable; 45-65 degrees with occasional wind gusts of about 10 mph. That's a paradise compared to the conditions that descended on the course Friday and Saturday.

4:00 p.m.: It's been 40 years since the final round of the Masters was played on a Monday. It's looking more and more likely that this will be the case this time around, as well.

3:15 p.m.: It's official: play has been suspended once more. Looks like Round 3 will have to be completed tomorrow.

3:00 p.m.: Water pooling onto the grass in spots, making it that much harder for golfers to work their way around the course.
