The Masters Tournament has traditions unlike any other in the sport of golf, including one recent trends: the cancellation of the pre-tournament Par 3 Contest.
After the event was canceled in 2020 and '21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it once again appeared in jeopardy in 2022 after reporters on the scene Wednesday indicated Augusta National closed the course amid reports of inclement weather — even a potential tornado — in the area.
While practice rounds were suspended, officials reportedly were determining whether to hold the afternoon Par 3 Contest; the Masters later confirmed the contest would begin at 1 p.m. ET.

Regardless, that raises the question about the rest of the Masters Tournament, including Thursday's opening round. Even if there is no delay in play, it's worth noting overnight thunderstorms could have an effect on golfers early in Round 1, as wet grass will likely affect swings (particularly for those with earlier tee times).
