Jordan Spieth's quest for a fourth major championship may have taken a hit. The 2015 Masters winner ruled himself out of this weekend's AT&T Byron Nelson with a left wrist injury, he announced on Monday.

"I had severe pain in my left wrist and had doctors confirm an injury that requires rest and limited movement," Spieth announced on social media.

Spieth said he was "disappointed" to be able to take part in this week's tournament, which is hosted in his hometown of Dallas.

It will also muddy the water as to whether he will be able to play in next week's PGA Championship.

Fresh off a second-place finish in the RBC Heritage, Spieth was pegged as one of the favorites in the Wells Fargo Championship. However, he struggled with his stroke during the event, posting scores of 72 and 77 on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

He wound up missing the cut by eight strokes.

Spieth wasn't the only big name to miss the mark in last weekend's tourney, but it was the nature of his struggles — from skewed drives to whirling putts — that caused concern for a great many viewers.

As it turns out, Spieth's struggles may well stem from the knock he was carrying.

Will Jordan Spieth play in the PGA Championship?

It remains to be seen whether Spieth will be able to participate in the 2023 PGA Championship. He himself was fairly noncommittal in his statement, labeling his evaluation process as "week to week."

"I'm focused on healing as quickly as possible and will have to evaluate my recovery week to week," he said.

Spieth needs to win the PGA Championship to complete the career grand slam, and with two Top-5 finishes in the PGA Championship over the course of his still-short career, the 29-year-old finds himself dangerously close to doing so.

But Spieth's fans will have to wait and see whether he will be ready to tee off when golf's second major tees off on May 18.
