Move over, LIV Golf. There's another first-time event aiming to shake up the golf world.

That would be the Icons Series, making its debut at the Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, N.J. this week. Unlike other events, it aims to "disrupt" the golf world by introducing some of the biggest names in sports from across the world in a team-based competition.

The format will be a team match play event, pitting the biggest U.S.-based sports stars against athletes from the rest of the world. The teams, aptly, will be named Team USA and Team Rest of the World (ROTW).

Here's everything you need to know about the event as it makes its debut in the sports lexicon:

Ernie Els, a 19-time PGA Tour winner and four-time major winner — twice each at the U.S. Open and the Open Championship — will captain Team ROTW. His team will consist of boxing megastar Canelo Alvarez, recently retired tennis world No. 1 Ash Barty, England and Spurs striker Harry Kane and more.
