Phil Mickelson at U.S. Open today: Score, tee time, TV coverage to watch first major after LIV Golf defection image

Few golfers have attracted more controversy in the past few months than Phil Mickelson.

The 52-year-old raised eyebrows when he inked a deal with the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitational Series worth a reported $200 million.

"Lefty" took part in the series' debut event, the LIV Golf Invitational outside London. He returned to the States to take part in the 2022 U.S. Open.

Mickelson fielded a wide array of questions regarding his decision to join LIV Golf at a U.S. Open press conference. However, he revealed very little, opting for answers that seemed carefully manicured.

The former PGA Tour veteran hoped to do most of his talking on the course. He has never won the U.S. Open, finishing runner-up a record six times.

What a year it would have been for Mickelson to claim his first title on the hallowed grounds of The Country Club in Brookline, Mass.
