Red Bull made Formula One history as Max Verstappen took his seventh straight victory at the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix.
Beating Lewis Hamilton off the start line and into the opening corner of the race, Verstappen strolled to yet another race victory as his Austrian team sealed their 12th win in a row — a new record in the sport which broke McLaren's run of 11 back in 1988.
The Dutch driver was joined on the podium by McLaren's Lando Norris who again impressed to come home in P2 and his teammate Sergio Perez, who put together a great recovery drive from P9 on the grid. Norris' P2 finish also saw him take back-to-back podium spots for the first time in his career after he finished second at Silverstone two weekends ago.
Hamilton finished P4 despite starting the race from pole position after he was passed by Verstappen off the start line. The seven-time world champion also lost positions to Norris and Oscar Piastri on the opening lap but recovered well.
Piastri himself finished in P5 whilst George Russell, Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll rounded out the points paying positions.
On his return to the sport, Daniel Ricciardo finished in P13 for AlphaTauri despite suffering a collision in the opening corner of the race.

F1 Hungarian Grand Prix 2023 live updates, highlights: As it happened
CHEQUERED FLAG: MAX VERSTAPPEN WINS THE 2023 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX!! It's seven race victories in succession for the Dutchman as Red Bull set the record for most wins in a row ever by an F1 constructor with 12. He got past Hamilton at the opening corner and never looked back.
Norris and Perez round out the podium places at the Hungaroring!

Lap 68: Perez's advances are beginning to fade towards the end of this race as Norris continues to respond and hold him off. The gap is sticking at around five seconds now.
Hamilton is just 2.9 seconds behind Perez now too..
Lap 66: Russell takes a wide line into the final corner and he breezes past Sainz on the start/finish straight with DRS. He's up to P7 and is just 5.9 seconds behind Leclerc who has a five-second penalty to add on at the end of this race..
Lap 65: Norris and Perez are battling with traffic as they fight it out for second spot this afternoon behind Verstappen. Norris holds a 3.2 second lead for now but Perez continues to close.

Can Lando hold on to P2? #HungarianGP #F1 pic.twitter.com/r6X5P0d1wJ
Lap 62: Perez is closing in on Norris rapidly and there's plenty of traffic to contest for the British driver.
"****, they've got to get out of my way!", he shouts over the radio. Will he be able to hold on for P2?
Lap 59: There it is as Hamilton gets past Piastri in the opening corner. He pulled to the right and did the Australian down the inside. Hamilton is 11 seconds back from Perez so it looks like it'll be a P4 finish this weekend for him barring any last minute drama.
Lap 57: It's been a pretty miserable afternoon for Hamilton who lost the lead of this race off the line but he's chasing down Piastri for P4.
Perez is also closing on Norris rapidly.
Lap 54: Verstappen now goes and smashes the fastest lap of the race, beating the Russell's previous best time by over a second. Stunning racing!
Lap 51: Verstappen is in for his final stop of the day. It's another quick one and he resumes 13 seconds ahead of Norris in P2 who has Perez closing on him behind.
Just 18 laps left to go for Max as Red Bull close in on a 12th consecutive win which would be a new record.
Lap 48: Perez is putting together a fantastic recovery drive here as he gets past Piastri for P4 on the road which will likely turn into P3 when Hamilton pits again.
Leclerc receives a five-second penalty for speeding in the pitlane.
Lap 47: Leclerc has been noted for speeding in the pit lane, that could compound his miserable afternoon as he continues in P7 for now.
Perez has DRS on Piastri, it feels like that overtake will be a matter of when rather than if.
Lap 45: Norris is in and he's back out a mile ahead of his teammate. That should be a podium spot guaranteed for the second race running for the McLaren driver.
Lap 43: Just as he looks like overtaking Hamilton, Perez pits and his team deliver a 1.9 second pitstop which is phenomenal.
Piastri pit at the same time and now has Perez breathing down his neck with both on new medium tyres. The gap is just 1.7 seconds between the duo.
Lap 42: There's some great battling going on here between Hamilton and Perez. The Mexican is on faster tyres and has the DRS but Hamilton continues to place his car perfectly in the corners when he needs to.
Lap 39: Perez is really beginning to pile the pressure on Hamilton as he looks to take P4 away from the Brit. He's now in DRS range and he needs to get this move done quickly if he wants to finish on the podium this afternoon.
Lap 35: Here's the current running order as we reach the halfway stage of this race.

Lap 34: Perez is beginning to reel in Hamilton as he puts his new medium tyres to work. He's fighting for his Red Bull future at the moment and a top three finish today from P9 on the grid would certainly help his cause.
Lap 31: There's news coming through that Ocon is currently been assessed by medical professionals following his crash on the opening lap. His car jumped into the air and his seat reportedly snap in half which is a concern.
Back on the track, Perez nabs the fastest lap of this race so far.
Lap 28: After getting past Sainz on the last lap, Perez then goes down the inside of corner two to get past Russell.
The Mercedes driver responds by finally pitting for the first time this afternoon.
Lap 27: Piastri in P3 has a huge 11 second gap to Hamilton in P4 as he hunts his first podium finish today.
Meanwhile, Perez goes down the inside of corner one and gets up to P6 courtesy of that overtake on Sainz.
Lap 24: Given that the two McLaren's are on fire, Verstappen responds and comes in for his first pit stop.
It's a 2.3 second stop for the championship leader and he easily comes back out in the lead of this race on his own hard tyres.
Lap 22: On his fresh tyres, Norris pumps in the fastest lap of this grand prix. Those two McLaren cars are flying right now much to Hamilton's bewilderment who comes onto his radio to say, "they're nine second ahead? that's crazy".

Lap 18: Norris pits and he's ahead of Hamilton as he resumes the race, that's absolutely crucial in his search for another podium this afternoon. Leclerc also comes in but it's a very slow stop and he's back out in P10.
One lap later and Piastri comes in but he comes out behind his teammate who's undercut him! Oooohhh, that's an interesting one from McLaren.
Lap 16: Sainz comes into the pits as Perez continues to put him under pressure. The Mexican driver is now up to P6 on his hard tyres and is closing in on Leclerc just up the road.
Hamilton also boxes to swap onto his own set of hard tyres.
Lap 14: Verstappen's lead is now up to 5.5 seconds from Piastri out in front. That gives his Red Bull team all the options as they search for a 12th consecutive win which would be a new record in F1.
Lap 12: Those midfield runners of Tsunoda, Stroll, Albon and Bottas all make their first stops of the afternoon and all four move onto the hard tyres. Normally those would last until the end of this race but there's plenty of tyre degradation going on this afternoon.
Lap 10: After a few laps of frustration, Perez finally gets past Alonso and jumps up into P7. Next up for him, Carlos Sainz who's soft tyres are beginning to struggle.
Zhou Guanyu's afternoon goes from bad to worse as he receives a five-second penalty for causing that opening corner collision. He's now in P15 from P5 on the grid.
Lap 8: After his poor start, Hamilton is really struggling to keeps tabs with the McLaren pair in front. He's currently 1.6 seconds adrift of Norris who in turn is two seconds back from his Australia teammate Piastri.
Lap 6: Verstappen leads this race and already holds a two second lead over Piastri in P2. Will the Australian be able to grab his first podium finish in F1 this weekend after he missed out at Silverstone last time out.
Sainz is up to P6 and Perez is up to P8 on the hard tyres which looks promising for the Mexican driver.
Lap 3: There's no replays of the incident just yet but it's a double DNF for Alpine as Gasly and Ocon are both forced to retire.
We're now seen it, Zhou Guanyu hits Ricciardo who in turn shunts into the two Alpine cars. That's a very tough break for the French team!

LIGHTS OUT: It's away we go at the Hungaroring and Verstappen leads the Hungarian Grand Prix!!! The Dutchman gets off to a fantastic start and bullies Hamilton on the inside of the opening corner to get past him with relative ease. Such was Hamilton's lack of pace that Piastri is up to P2 and Norris into P3 above the Brit.
2 minutes to lights out: We're off for the formation lap ahead of the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix.
15 minutes to lights out: The drivers are now heading to the front of the grid for the national anthem. Who've you got today then as your winner; Hamilton, Verstappen, Norris or someone else on the grid?

30 minutes to lights out: The pit lane is open and all of the cars have made their way to the grid for today's race. Not long left until we go racing here at the Hungaroring!
45 minutes to lights out: So what chance does Hamilton have of grabbing his first win this season in Hungary today? Well with Verstappen just behind on the grid in that Red Bull rocket ship, it'll be difficult and he'll have to be ahead at the end of lap one to have any chance you'd imagine.
A perfectly-timed safety car stoppage could also prove his best bet or if Norris can jump Verstappen at the beginning of the race and hold him up, that may also be crucial for Hamilton's chances of winning today.
1 hour to lights out: Hello and welcome to The Sporting News' live coverage of the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix taking place at the Hungaroring.
This circuit usually delivers the action as we've seen over recent years and during qualifying yesterday. Here's to hoping that there's even more to come this time around!
