Hundreds of millions of people around the world followed the Ballon d'Or ceremony live in 2022, when Alexia Putellas and Karim Benzema won the awards.

According to figures released by France Football and L'Equipe (via Be Soccer), which are part of the group responsible for organising the awards, the event also attracted 61 million responses on Twitter (now X), demonstrating the enduring appeal and prestige of the vote.

World Cup winners Aitana Bonmati, of Spain, and Lionel Messi, the Argentina captain, are the favourites to win their categories this time, when a huge audience is certain to tune in again.

The ceremony, which will be hosted by former Chelsea star Didier Drogba, will take place on October 30 in Paris. The winners of the Kopa Trophy (for best young men's player) and Yashin Trophy (for the best men's goalkeeper) will also be announced.
