Evergreen striker Luuk de Jong continued his phenomenal season by converting from the penalty spot to give PSV a 1-1 Champions League Round of 16 draw against Borussia Dortmund.

The Bundesliga giants took a first-half lead at the Philips Stadion when Donyell Malen scored against his former club via a deflection off Sergino Dest.

Malen opted not to celebrate at his old ground, where this season’s hero was once again the toast of the natives.

De Jong has scored a remarkable 19 goals and laid on eight assists in 22 Eredivisie games this season and was handed a 56th-minute chance to equalise when Mats Hummels brought down Ricardo Pepi.

The USMNT forward went down slightly theatrically but the challenge was also unforgivably rash from a defender of Hummels’ vintage.

Alexander Meyer guessed correctly in the Dortmund goal but De Jong’s kick was perfectly placed, low to his right, to leave this tie intriguingly poised ahead of next month’s return at Signal Iduna Park.
