Paul Pogba injury update: Juventus star could miss World Cup with knee issue image

Paul Pogba's return to Juventus has hit a snag with the midfield star sent for scans after limping out of pre-season training with a knee injury.

The World Cup winner only re-joined the Bianconeri earlier this month on a four-year contract after moving on a free transfer from Manchester United - returning to the club he played at between 2012 and 2016.

The Sporting News has all the latest news and updates surrounding Pogba's injury.

How did Paul Pogba get injured?

After making his first start for Juventus in a 2-0 friendly win against Guadalajara in Nevada on Saturday - since returning to the club - Pogba told club officials he was suffering knee pain during a training session in Los Angeles on Monday.

Juventus revealed they sent Pogba for preliminary scans, which revealed a meniscus issue, and they will now seek a further specialist opinion on the issue.

“Following complaining of pain in his right knee, Paul Pogba underwent radiological examinations that revealed a lesion of the lateral meniscus,” Juventus said in a statement on Monday night.

“In the next few hours he will undergo a specialist orthopedic consultation. Therefore, in order to continue treatment, he is not taking part in the trip to Dallas.”

When will Paul Pogba return from injury?

The seriousness of Pogba's injury is still being determined by Juventus, with the orthopedic specialist likely to confirm the severity of the ailment.

Juve confirmed he had a 'lesion' in his right meniscus which will see him sidelined for quite a few weeks.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Pogba will see a specialist on July 29 and decide on one of two options to fix the injury.

The quickest fix would involve the removal of the damaged part of the meniscus and keep him sidelined for around six weeks.

The second option would focus on fully repairing his knee which could rule him out for the remainder of the year and mean Pogba misses the World Cup with France.

Paul Pogba's injury history

Pogba has missed significant chunks of his last three seasons at Manchester United through injury - but interestingly he has never suffered a publicly recorded knee injury.

Last season, he missed 19 Red Devils matches with hamstring and calf injuries, as his time at Old Trafford came to an end for a second time.

In the two previous campaigns, he missed 13 matches with hamstring and ankles issues in 2020-21 and 40 matches with ankle problems through 2019-20.

Prior to the last three seasons, Pogba had been relatively injury-free, only being absent from 28 matches between 2012 and then end of the 2018-19 season, incorporating time at both Juventus and Man United.
