With the league title and European places all sorted, the final weekend of the 2022/23 Premier League season was entirely focused on the relegation battle.
With Southampton confirmed to the drop weeks prior, only one of Leeds United, Leicester City or Everton could maintain their top flight status next season, with two of them heading down at the end of the day.
Everton, as Premier League founding members, held all the cards on the final day, needing only a win to survive. 2016 champions Leicester suffered a disastrous slide through the second half of the season and needed help, while Leeds brought in Sam Allardyce to save their dire position.
Ultimately, the Toffees beat Bournemouth on the final day by a 1-0 scoreline, doing the business and keeping them afloat. Regardless of the other results, Leeds and Leicester City were sunk. Leeds ended the season in 19th, thanks in part to their final day defeat to Tottenham.

Why Leeds United were relegated from the Premier League
The last day defeat to Tottenham was emblematic of Leeds' entire season. They were porous at the back, and struggled to finish their own chances.
While Leeds came close to matching Tottenham as far as opportunities in front of net go, picking up 1.50 xG and conceding 2.12 xGA, they just could not come through in those key moments. Ivan Meslier, who has struggled all season, here was powerless to anything about the four goals, which were the result of exceptional Tottenham finishing.
Through their 38 games this season, Leeds conceded 68.58 xGA, the second-most in the league, and they managed to have opponents out-do even that total by a massive -8.42 differential, conceding 78 goals, the most in the English top flight.
Meanwhile, on the other end of the pitch, Patrick Bamford struggling with finishing all season long, and while Rodrigo did his best to make up the difference, they just couldn't out-score teams at the rate they conceded.
All of that contributed to the most damning statistic of the Leeds campaign, and the ultimate reason for their relegation — Leeds dropped 25 points from winning positions, by far the most in the league. It continued to happen down the stretch as they fought for their lives, capitulating despite early leads over Newcastle and West Ham in their penultimate two fixtures of the season.
