What a torrid week it's been for Germany after manager Hansi Flick was sacked following their shocking 4-1 defeat to Japan on home soil on Saturday.

It was only a friendly against the Asian side but the overall poor performance meant that the German FA pulled the trigger on Flick's reign with former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann looking the most likely candidate to fill the open position.

Following that result, it hardly gets any easier for the home side here as they face World Cup finalists France in Dortmund on Tuesday. It might only be a friendly match, but Germany will be determined to prove they can still mix it with the continent's best, with their home Euros less than a year away.

The visitors easily dispatched the Republic of Ireland 2-0 in Euro 2024 qualifying in Paris on Thursday and will be looking to extend their five-match unbeaten run with another positive result in this outing.

Germany vs. France best bet

Given Germany's defence lies in tatters following their 4-1 defeat to Japan over the weekend coupled with the fact that France's attack remains arguably the best in world football, we're backing the 'over 2.5 goals scored' selection here.

France netted twice in their last outing versus Ireland and, in truth, it should have been more as they registered 25 attempted shots in that Euro 2024 qualifying encounter. In fact, they've scored in each of their past nine internationals, a streak they'll be keen to add to here.

As bad as they seem to be defensively of late, German still hold a potent attack of their own and, on home soil again, they should find a breakthrough of their own.

Germany vs. France flier bet

  • Pick: Marcus Thuram to score anytime
  • Odds: 21/10 (BetOnSports)

After impressing early this season for new club Inter Milan, which culminated in a goal against Fiorentina last weekend, Marcus Thuram continued that form by netting for France against the Republic of Ireland on Thursday.

That was his first full international strike for his country and although that points towards someone who perhaps hasn't been a real threat across his 10 prior national-team appearances, his form remains solid in front of goal over the past week or so.

It should also be noted that with this selection here we're looking for value, as unfortunately the picks of Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann in particular to score anytime have very short odds. With Olivier Giroud missing this match due to injury, Thuram offers a good alternative.
