Everton will feature in this year's Sydney Super Cup, joining Scottish Premier League champions Celtic and A-League Men teams Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers.

The Toffees join the tournament following the withdrawal of Rangers FC in April.

Set to take place during the European winter break, three matches will be played in the series, with Everton and Celtic's November 20 clash to headline the inaugural event.

It will be Everton's first visit Down Under since 2010, with a large contingent of Australia-based fans set to welcome the club.

There is a strong connection between the club and Australia, notably because of Socceroos legend Tim Cahill's successful eight-year stint on Merseyside.

Everton will be led to Sydney by manager Frank Lampard, who will be in his first full season in the role.

“We are really looking forward to travelling to Australia later this year," Lampard said.

"The winter World Cup has provided us with this opportunity to visit an amazing country and play against really strong opposition.

"We’ve also got a lot of passionate Evertonians in Australia and we can’t wait to catch up with them.

“Other than the players that will be on duty at the World Cup, we will be taking our strongest possible squad.

"This promises to be a very worthwhile tour on every level, and we are delighted to be making the trip.”

Further, there is a strong Australian connection to Celtic, who are led by Australian manager Ange Postecoglou.

Socceroos legend Harry Kewell has also joined the coaching ranks at The Bhoys, with the club aiming to build on their successful 2021/22 campaign.

The opportunity to play against Premier League opposition will be valuable, according to the Celtic boss.

"Everton is a fantastic football club with proper history and pedigree," Postecoglou said.

"I know they have a very good following in Australia so we really look forward to this match in November and the whole occasion of the Sydney Super Cup with Everton, Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers.

“Celtic enjoys such massive support globally and in Australia in particular and I know our fans there will be delighted to see the club play against a team from one of the world’s great leagues, as part of the Super Cup.”
