In the marquee clash of the 2022 Champions League quarterfinal round, current holders Chelsea will do battle against record 13-time winners Real Madrid in a heavyweight showdown between two clubs that both have expectations of reaching the final. They met in last year's semifinal with Chelsea advancing 3-1 on aggregate goals.

The Blues are looking to bounce straight back from a shock Premier League defeat at the hands of Brentford when they host the first leg on Wednesday. Their Stamford Bridge home did not not prove much of an advantage in a humiliating 4-1 loss to the bottom-half side on Saturday.

Real Madrid recovered from an embarrassment of its own (4-0 home loss to rivals Barcelona) with a 2-1 road win at Celta Vigo on Saturday. But that victory was marred by controversy after the referee awarded Los Merengues three penalty kicks. The three points allowed Real Madrid to maintain a 12-point lead in La Liga over rivals Barcelona.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti missed the match against Celta Vigo due to COVID-19, but he was cleared to travel to London after testing negative on Tuesday. He previously led Chelsea to a Premier League title and FA Cup trophy during his two seasons in charge from 2009-2011.

Chelsea vs. Real Madrid betting odds

This match is intriguing, with a wounded Chelsea side looking to reassert itself at home, usually such a fortress for the Blues. Both sides have four wins in their last five matches — except for that one ignominious result each.

It should be a close one, with the Blues most likely to edge out a win according to the sportsbooks.
