Chelsea and Liverpool both gun for precious silverware as the two Premier League giants clash in the 2024 EFL Cup final at Wembley on Sunday.

Each club has reason to covet this trophy, knowing other titles will be hard to come by this season. Chelsea especially have just the domestic Cups remaining on the table, sitting well outside the Premier League title race and not participating in European competition.

Liverpool too have a tough road ahead, still alive on all fronts but with plenty of top-tier competition at every turn. The Reds are top of the Premier League table but have Manchester City and Arsenal hot on their heels, while the Europa League looks just as stacked as the Champions League with Bayer Leverkusen, AC Milan, and Atalanta all looking to make a famous run.

Thus, while the EFL Cup is often considered the least valuable of the available trophies, these 90 minutes plus are anything but. Indeed, this chance for Wembley glory could end up proving a season-defining moment, as Chelsea have a potentially lost season hanging in the balance, while Liverpool would relish the chance to lock in silverware with plenty of tough battles ahead.

Chelsea vs Liverpool prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: Liverpool (+115)
  • Score prediction: Chelsea 1-3 Liverpool

Chelsea have played up or down to their competition on a repeated basis over the past few months, and thus should be ready for this challenge, but Liverpool have been nearly unbeatable over the course of the season.

Despite a nearly unimaginable injury crisis that has seen almost every player affected at some stage, Jurgen Klopp has this team continuing to fire on every front. Mohamed Salah was given a rest in the midweek win over Luton Town, and should be fresh for this trophy bout, while Darwin Nunez may still yet prove fit for this match against a secret admirer (Chelsea had previously been linked with the striker), after also missing out just days ago.

Regardless of who is fit, Klopp has managed to get the job done all year long, and this 90 minutes should be no different.

Chelsea vs Liverpool best bet

  • Pick: Liverpool to win second half
  • Odds: +140 (DraftKings)

Regardless of how they've performed before the break, Liverpool has been exceptional all season long in the final 45 minutes where the dough is made. In Premier League play, Liverpool would hold a theoretical nine-point lead atop the table if only the second half of matches counted this season, while they also have the most points from losing positions in the English top flight.

Chelsea meanwhile, have been awful after halftime. They would be in the relegation zone, sitting 18th in the second half table with a -4 goal differential and just 24 points off 25 matches after halftime (six wins, six draws, 13 defeats). Only Burnley and Sheffield United sport a worse record after the break.

Jurgen Klopp is the best manager in the world at halftime adjustments, and he should have Chelsea's number after the break regardless of how the first 45 minutes played out — based solely on how this season has played out to now, this is a mortal lock.

Chelsea vs Liverpool prop bet

  • Pick: Over 3.0 total goals
  • Odds: +110 (DraftKings)

It took quite some time, but Chelsea and Liverpool finally got the seemingly impenetrable lid off the goal while playing each other. These two sides went an astonishing 423 minutes of action across all competitions against each other without scoring, before finally netting once each in their first Premier League match of the season.

That opened the floodgates, as Liverpool blasted Chelsea 4-1 last month in their reverse league fixture at Anfield. While this game should be a closer contest given a trophy is on the line, it's still one between two chaotic teams with a hefty injury list, which often harms defensive solidity more than attacking pressure.

With lots of lost time to make up for between these two clubs, and both sides in good goal scoring form (Liverpool have scored 12 goals in their last four matches since last facing the Blues, while Chelsea have nine in the same span), there will be plenty of chances here.
