Erik ten Hag is under the most pressure he's ever faced in his tenure as Manchester United manager as they hit the road to visit Burnley in Premier League action.

The Red Devils were undone by a goalkeeping error from Andre Onana in a wild 4-3 defeat to Bayern Munich midweek, showing fighting spirit but unable to paper over the mistake in their Champions League opener.

That will leave Burnley boss Vincent Kompany licking his chops, who will know his opponent well after spending years on the opposing end of the Manchester derby during his long playing spell at Man City.

With Burnley sitting on just a single point through four Premier League matches this season, a home result of any kind would not only leave Kompany buoyed at the bottom, but would leave Ten Hag to pick up the pieces from his biggest disappointment yet.

Burnley vs Man United prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: Man United (8/11)
  • Score prediction: Burnley 0-1 Man United

Manchester United, despite their recent struggles on and off the field, have been installed as significant favorites, but that clearly hasn't deterred some in the market from backing Burnley, who are not sporting as long of odds as one might expect in a matchup between clubs featuring such a gulf in magnitude.

Goals are expected to flow as the market backs both teams to find the net, even though Burnley have only scored four times in four Premier League matches thus far, second-worst in the league.

Burnley vs Man United best bet

Burnley's defensive structure hasn't been the problem for them this season, it's been their attacking front, and the same is largely true for Manchester United. Burnley have conceded 12 goals this year, but it's been finishing that has done them in, seeing chances worth just 7.76 xG converted into 12 goals on 12.2 xGOT, meaning opponents have finished at a stellar rate against goalkeeper James Trafford.

Against, Manchester United, that shouldn't be a problem. Sure, striker Rasmus Hojlund is now manning the front line, but to this point in the season, the Red Devils are one of the worst finishing teams in the Premier League, scoring just six goals on 9.01 xG, the third-lowest differential in the EPL behind Everton and Chelsea.

With Burnley sure to bunker for much of the game, and proving largely ineffective on the counter to this point, it's hard to imagine this being a barnburner.

Burnley vs Man United prop bet

While chances are likely to come few and far between for United, the one man who looks likely to score right now is their new striker Rasmus Hojlund. He saw a goal ruled out against Brighton before scoring his first for the club against Bayern Munich, looking lively to start his Red Devils career.

With Marcus Rashford not finishing at his most prolific rate, Bruno Fernandes proving a better creator than finisher himself, and Antony out of the fold, the stage is set for Hojlund to crop up and snatch an important moment of what should be a low-scoring affair.
