Brazil have begun their 2024 Copa America with a stalemate as they were held to a 0-0 draw against Costa Rica in Group D.
Selecao were utterly dominant throughout the match and they can feel a slight sense of injustice as the first half could have shaped the game completely differently, had they not had a goal chalked off by VAR for offside.
There was also a huge penalty shout waved away by the referee for a handball in the box which saw Vinicius Jr and Marquinhos approach the referee at the break in protest. Dorival Junior's men had 75% possession and nine shots, while Costa Rica failed to record an attempt.
In the second half, it was more of the same as Brazil continued to play the ball around in the final third but with little reward. They came closest through West Ham's Lucas Paqueta who hit a rocket from distance but was denied by the post.
Costa Rica's game plan was brilliantly executed as they showed resilience in defence and had nearly all 11 players camped in their own half for the majority of the match.
They came into the game as huge underdogs and stole a point from one of the tournament's favorites.

33 mins: GOAL RULED OUT! After a lengthy check, VAR deemed an offside was in the build-up.

26 mins: It's the West Ham man again who has a strike from distance but Paqueta can't hit the target.
24 mins: Huge chance for Brazil as Raphinha is one on one with the goalkeeper but again the Costa Rica man denies him.

10 mins: Vini is has space and attempts to pick out Rodrygo in the box but it's swept away. Brazil are using these flanks well so far.

Brazil vs. Costa Rica lineups, team news, starting 11
The big absentee for Brazil at this tournament is Neymar, who has not recovered sufficiently from a serious ankle injury. However, they will also be missing experienced midfielder Casemiro, who was overlooked for the squad, and goalkeeper Ederson, who sustained a fractured eye socket in Manchester City's win over Tottenham last month.
Dorival Junior continues with his favored 4-3-3 formation but teen sensation Endrick on the bench, with Barcelona winger Raphinha completing the front three alongside Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr.
Brazil starting lineup (4-3-3): Alisson (GK) — Danilo, Militao, Marquinhos, Arana — Guimaraes, Gomes, Paqueta — Raphinha, Rodrygo, Vinicius.
Gustavo Alfaro, on the other hand, has set up his team in a conservative 4-3-2-1 formation.
Costa Rica starting lineup (4-3-2-1): Sequeira (GK) — Mitchell, Vargas, Calvo, Quiros — Brenes, Galo — Lassister Aguilera, Ugalde — Zamora.
