With club and manager having a point to prove in the Premier League, motivation should not be an issue for Bournemouth ahead of their return to the top flight for the 2022/23 season.

Scott Parker has won promotion from the second tier for the second time in his short managerial career, and the former England international will be desperate not to repeat his dismal debut campaign as a boss in the Premier League in 2020/21, when Fulham were relegated with a whimper.

Bournemouth went down by a point in 2019/20 and their path back was a tough one, their hopes of an immediate return ended by a playoff defeat to Brentford in 2020/21.

Will the Cherries' hopes turn sour or can Parker give them staying power with his second bite of the Premier League cherry? Here's their schedule:

Bournemouth in the FA Cup, Carabao Cup

Anything but humiliation in the cups would be an improvement for Bournemouth in 2022/23. They will be hoping their 6-0 Carabao Cup defeat at Norwich, who were relegated from the Premier League, is no omen for their chances in the division, restarting in that competition in November.

Matters were even worse for Bournemouth in the FA Cup, which they will return to in January. Non-league Boreham Wood won 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium in the 2021/22 fourth round, providing arguably the upset of the season in the competition.

Bournemouth Premier League betting odds

Parker might well pin the relegation odds on the dressing room wall as an incentive for his players to defy the doubters and bookmakers, who have Bournemouth as odds-on candidates for relegation.

But there is always at least one surprise package across a season, and the club's spending power remains bolstered by their previous spell in the Premier League, with recruits such as £10 million man Marcus Tavernier bolstering their chances.

Bournemouth best & worst Premier League finish

Bournemouth had a storied rise through the divisions, surging from the fourth and bottom tier of English football in 2008 to the Premier League in 2015, where they impressively remained for five seasons.

That was Bournemouth's first experience of the modern Premier League, and ex-boss Eddie Howe, who had played for the club and guided them from League Two to the Premier League, led them to a best-ever ninth place in 2016/17.

Stability under long-serving Howe made it something of a surprise when Bournemouth finished 18th in their last season in the Premier League. Howe left shortly afterwards, and will no doubt receive a warm reception from fans of his former club in his new role in charge of a transformed Newcastle.
