Aymeric Laporte gave Manchester City a 2-1 friendly victory over Bayern Munich after late drama in Tokyo.
James McAtee handed City a first-half lead against the run of play after Leroy Sane clattered a free-kick against the top of the crossbar.
It was the same story after the break, with City dominating after a raft of halftime changes, only for France Under-19 striker Mathys Tel to capitalise upon an error from Ederson to equalise in the 81st minute.
Parity was short-lived, however, with Laporte the beneficiary after a well-worked short corner routine from Maximo Perrone and Phil Foden.

Kyle Walker captained City despite heavily reported interest from Bayern and he was involved in the opening goal, sliding a pass through to Rico Lewis, who teed up Julian Alvarez to shoot. The potentially Inter Milan-bound Yann Sommer saved but McAtee was able to prod over the line.
Sane had tested the furniture against his former club prior to that and Ederson saved impressively with his boot when Kinglsey Coman fired goalwards in the 41st minute.
The Brazil goalkeeper will have been far less satisfied with his work on the Bayern equaliser when he failed to gather Paul Wanner's attempt from Frans Kratzig's low cross.
Wholesale changes did not help a disjointed second half as a spectacle, but Oscar Bobb, Perrone and Foden combined beautifully for the winner. Sven Ulrich saved Foden's eventual shot but the England international touched the ball towards Laporte — another man in this game with question marks over his immediate future – who volleyed home.

Walker gives City and Bayern reasons to fight
"We will fight for him, like I'm pretty sure Bayern [will]. I don't know how it is going to finish," Pep Guardiola said in his pre-match news conference when asked about Walker's future. The England defender stepping out in Tokyo as City's captain was a curious sight given Bayern's well-documented desire to secure his services for a fee thought to be in the region of £13 million ($16.8m).
Guardiola talked about Walker's "specific qualities that are so difficult to find worldwide" and those were all in evidence during the first half. Bayern were a constant threat on the break and in transitions, meaning Walker had the chance to unfurl his trademark recovery pace and thwart Coman, who might not relish training alongside the 33-year-old every day if Bayern's grand plans come to pass. Walker also had a hand in the opening goal and completed another tearing overlap around the outside of Bernardo Silva.
Guardiola's preference of playing with an extra centre-back towards the end of last season left Walker marginalised at times, culminating in him being left out of the Champions League final starting XI. However, the City manager is right to point out that he gives his team a combination of qualities that would be very hard to replace.
Kane would thrive for Tuchel's Bayern
As Bayern seized on any suggestion of a mistake in City's midfield during the first half and Coman, Jamal Musiala and Sane surged forward, it was hard not to be impressed. But the finishing touch was often lacking. Serge Gnabry is a fine, destructive attacker but he still feels like a placeholder in Bayern's post-Robert Lewandowski era.
If any clarification was needed, Wednesday's performance made it obvious how much fun Harry Kane could have in this company, both enjoying service of the highest quality and using his range of passes to let the likes of Sane, Gnabry and Coman wreak havoc. The Bundesliga giants should push hard to force the notoriously miserly Daniel Levy's hand before the deadline.
Ake highlights problem of Gvardiol deadlock for City
City fans will have been relieved to see Nathan Ake happily mingling and signing autographs at the end of the game after withdrawing before the half-hour with an apparent calf problem. As the Netherlands defender received treatment, it was hard for thoughts not to drift towards Josko Gvardiol.
Guardiola's number-one target this summer operates in Ake's position on the left-hand side of defence and the move has hit an impasse, with RB Leipzig and City still not settled on a final fee or payment structure, breaking the usually cast-iron guarantee of a Fabrizio Romano "here we go". The Community Shield against Arsenal is a week and a half away and Guardiola will be keen for his old ally Txiki Begiristain, City's director of football, to get things moving once again.

Bayern Munich vs Man City as it happened, highlights, commentary
Fulltime: Laporte's late goal proves to be the difference. The late drama, sparked by Tel's equaliser elevated a fairly listless second half. The first period, where McAtee scored for City and Sane and Coman went close for Bayern, was good fun. Guardiola and Tuchel are now chatting away and enjoying each other's company, so that's nice. Both these teams are back in action over the weekend, with Bayern facing Kawasaki Frontale of the J.League. City make a relatively short trip to South Korea to take on Atletico Madrid. Thanks for being with us today!
90th minute: There will be three minutes of added time.
86th minute:GOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!!! Aymeric Laporte!!!
Perrone has impressed since coming on and slides a cute pass to Foden from a short corner. The England attacker drives towards goal, Ulreich saves but Foden has the presence of mind to touch the ball towards Laporte to volley home.
84th minute: Haaland has had a quiet half but that's quality. A first touch and a snapshot on the end of Foden's free-kick is blocked by Goretzka. From the resulting corner, Ulreich is at full stretch to brilliantly deny Laporte.
81st minute: GOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!!! Mathys Tel!!!
As was the case in the first half, the goal comes against the run of play. Kratzig has impressed defensively and scoots forward down the left to aim in a good low cross. Ederson fumbles Wanner's initial attempt and France Under-19 striker Tel reacts to dispatch the rebound.
80th minute: Laporte looks to play City in over the top. Haaland and Perrone get in one another's way a little bit and a scampering Kratzig steals in.
78th minute: The move continues. Perrone almost nails the flick through to Haaland but Bayern avert the danger.
77th minute: A combination of Kratzig and Goretzka thwart Bobb's latest raid. Perrone keeps City in possession...
73rd minute: Cancelo tries a blind flick with the outside of his foot inside his own half and Bayern get the ball back. A great way to mend relations with his manager! The attack comes to nothing.
71st minute: City's latest change sees Bernardo Silva replaced by Maximo Perrone. It mean Ederson is the only man remaining from the starting XI.
68th minute: Bobb, the two-time player of the year for City's elite development squad who was lively in the game against Yokohama, cuts inside and lashes over from 25 yards. It's time for a water break.
67th minute: Wanner picks out Mane with a lovely lofted pass. The ex-Liverpool man cuts inside Cancelo but Rodri comes back to mop up for City.
65th minute: Almost midway through the second half. The first half was better.
57th minute: Almost 2-0! Silva's cutback towards Haaland is blocked and then Rodri follows up to have a shot blocked on the line. City's team for this half has more senior experience man-for-man and it is showing at the moment. Bayern struggling to get much respite in possession.
51st minute: Mane runs off Cancelo's shoulder, trying to make the most of the latter's unfamiliar position. In a more familiar position is Ederson charging from goal to mop up the danger.
46th minute: We're back underway. Bayern have put out an entirely new XI including Leon Goretzka and Sadio Mane. Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and Rodri are among eight City alterations. They already sent on Akanji in place of the injured Ake remember.
Halftime: Bayern deal with the corner and, on balance, they're unlucky not to be at least level. On the other hand, after Upamecano and Sommer's Laurel & Hardy act just then they probably should be 2-0 down. We'll see you and probably a raft of substitutions in a few.
45th minute+2: Mayhem at the back from Bayern! Upamecano sells Sommer a bit short with a backpass into the goalmouth. Under pressure from Silva, the Switzerland goalkeeper manages to fall over, Upamecano partially atones for his role in all that caper by outmuscling Lewis and conceding a corner.
43rd minute: Again Bayern capitalise upon a City midfield mistake. Gnabry surges at the defence and finds Coman, whose shot is well saved by Ederson with his left boot.
42nd minute: So many of Bayern's best moments have come from Sane and he drives at City again. The attack moves to Coman, who has a low shot deflected wide. Pavard gets a flick on from the right-wing corner but no one can get the decisive touch. That was begging to be finished!
38th minute: Lewis has designs on repeating his contribution to the opening goal but is crowded out before he can shoot. Kovacic makes a rare error in possession and Bayern counter attack rapidly again. Ederson beats away Musiala's rasping drive.
37th minute: Walker into the action at the other end now, overlapping Silva and delivering a low cross that Kimmich cuts out.
34th minute: Walker turns on the jets to see off Coman and prod the ball out for a corner. He'd be handy to have in your team, wouldn't he Thomas? Another Bayern corner comes to nought.
33rd minute: Grealish comedically mistimes his jump for a header on the end of a Silva cross. McAtee keeps the attack alive and City patiently build once more. Eventually, Silva takes the ball out of play under pressure from Laimer. He thinks that should have been his throw-in and might have a point.
28th minute: City aren't going to take any chances with Ake. Manuel Akanji will be on in his place shortly. Bayern cough up possession but Grealish is unable to nail the throughball to Alvarez. He'll be disappointed with that.
25th minute: Ederson loafs about in possession and Musiala charges down the ball. In the ensuing frantic passage of play, Coman picks up a knock. Problems for City also, with AKe down on the turf and feeling his calf.
21st minute: GOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!!! James McAtee!!!
City emerge from that spell of Bayern pressure to take the lead. Walker slides a fine pass through to Lewis, who darts into space left by a napping Laimer. Upamecano does his best to give away a penalty but the City teenager stays upright, picks out Alvarez and Sommer saves. The rebound spins towards goal, though, and McAtee prods home.
Let's go!!! 💪

19th minute: Sane hits the crossbar. A venomous strike wobbling and dipping viciously goes behind off the top of the crossbar. Ederson had given that one up.
18th minute: Laimer buys a foul from Rico Lewis about 30 yards out. Sane appears to like the look of this.
17th minute: McAtee gives the ball away cheaply and Bayern are away. Mazraoui slips in Sane, Ederson comes out well to close the angle and Musiala's eventual shot is diverted behind my Ake.
16th minute: The corner doesn't clear the first man again and it's offside anyway. Not the best.
15th minute: Alphonso Davies goes barrelling into the City box. He's crowded out by Dias and Ake just gets to a loose ball at the back post ahead of Sane. After starting on the back foot, Bayern are playing some really nice stuff now. Mazraoui joins the attack and wins a corner.
11th minute: The Ederson to Silva switch works well again. Glorious touch from the Portugal playmaker. But Stones has his pocket picked from the subsequent pass and Coman leads Bayern onto the attack. He gets the ball back and his cross towards Gnabry is pouched by Ederson.
8th minute: Lovely turn in midfield from Musiala, who just fails to pick out Gnabry with his throughball. City break shortly afterwards and Sane bundles Grealish to the floor. Free-kick in a useful position out to the left.
6th minute: Bayern counter and Sane wins a corner. City clear the danger.
5th minute: City have had the ball more or less since the previous entry. Ederson strokes a lovely lofted ball out to Silva, who feeds it into the box where Grealish lays off to Stones. His England teammate, who scored against Marinos at the weekend, drags his shot wide.
2nd minute: City are calmly into their football, with Silva and Grealish lining up on the wings as was the case during the Champions League run. Academy graduates Lewis and McAtee are taking up the central attacking midfield positions behind Alvarez.
1 min to kickoff: Worth noting as the teams get into their starting formations that we actually have VAR today. No preseason escape from all of that caper.

5 mins to kickoff: The teams are in the tunnel, both sporting their away kits for the coming season. Here they come, entering the arena at the Japan National Stadium. It's been very warm and very humid in Tokyo today, with nightfall very much welcome prior to kickoff.
30 mins to kickoff: Walker's future isn't the only lingering bit of transfer business hanging over this game. Yann Sommer starts in goal for Bayern despite being heavily linked with Internazionale. Joao Cancelo, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Bayern, is among the City substitutes. The abrupt nature of his temporary departure in January means his chances of a long-term future under Guardiola feel pretty remote, although the Portugal international did grab himself an assist for Haaland in the Yokohama F. Marinos win.
55 mins to kickoff: And here's the Bayern starting XI, which includes ex-City winger Leroy Sane.

1hr 20 mins to kickoff: Bayern enjoyed their traditional pre-season opener and it's customary farcical scoreline before heading to Japan. Ninth-tier amateurs Rottach-Egern were dispatched 27-0. Here are all the goals. You might just fit them in before kickoff in Tokyo.
1 hr 40 mins to kickoff: The most interesting subtext to this game between two clubs with a fair bit of shared modern history is the future of Kyle Walker. The England defender has been one of Pep Guardiola's most reliable performers since joining City in 2017 but, with a year left on his contract and at 33, he is reportedly keen to join Bayern in a deal worth in the region of £13 million. As you'd expect, Guardiola was asked about this at his pre-match news conference and this is what he had to say:
We will fight for him, like I'm pretty sure Bayern [will]. I don't know how it is going to finish."
He is an incredibly important player for us. He has very specific qualities that are so difficult to find worldwide.
His specific qualities are irreplaceable. We want him here but at the end I don't know what is going to happen.
2 hours to kickoff: Hello and welcome to the Sporting News' live coverage of Bayern Munich vs Manchester City in Tokyo. European champions City prevailed 4-1 on aggregate when the teams met in the Champions League with a little bit more on the line three months ago.
Bayern Munich vs Man City lineups
Bayern's wild win over Rottach-Egern will not have provided Tuchel will too much to work with ahead of this encounter and he is still missing veteran duo Thomas Muller and Manuel Neuer through injury.
Bayern Munich starting lineup (4-2-3-1): 27-Yann Sommer (GK) — 40-Noussair Mazraoui 2-Dayot Upamecano, 5-Benjamin Pavard, 19-Alphonso Davies — 24-Konrad Laimer, 6-Joshua Kimmich — 11-Kingsley Coman, 42-Jamal Musiala, 10-Leroy Sane — 7-Serge Gnabry
Guardiola gave a positive update on Kevin De Bruyne's recovery from a hamstring injury but the playmaker is only likely to feature from the bench, if at all.
Ruben Dias, Rodri and Erling Haaland all played the second half of the win over Yokohama F. Marinos, with Dias into the team from kickoff this time around.
Man City starting lineup (4-3-3 right to left): 31-Ederson (GK) — 2-Kyle Walker, 3-Ruben Dias, 5-John Stones, 6-Nathan Ake — 82-Rico Lewis, 8-Mateo Kovacic, 20-Bernardo Silva — 87-James McAtee, 19-Julian Alvarez, 10-Jack Grealish
