An early-season top-two clash takes the field on Friday as defending Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich meet Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen upstarts.

Through three German top-flight matches, these two are the only remaining teams with perfect records, but something will have to give at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern required a second-half comeback last time out, with Mathys Tel completing the job in the 87th minute on the road at Borussia Monchengladbach. Leverkusen, meanwhile, squeaked by RB Leipzig in their opener before clobbering Gladbach and Darmstadt.

Harry Kane is off to a positive start at his new German home, but there are others on the pitch today who could also be a threat to score.

Bayern Munich vs Bayer Leverkusen prediction, odds

  • Full-time result: Bayern Munich (4/7)
  • Score prediction: Bayern Munich 2-1 Bayer Leverkusen

Bayern will be looking for revenge from last season when it was Leverkusen who took home the three points in comeback fashion last time they met.

Yet prior to that, Bayern had gone seven straight unbeaten against Xabi Alonso's team, so they have historically commanded this fixture, especially at Allianz Arena where Leverkusen have just one win in the last decade.

Bayern Munich vs Bayer Leverkusen: best bet

The Bundesliga has been known to get weird at times, but often in clashes between teams with high attacking outputs, the two can be hyper aware of the other's threat and focus partly on keeping that at bay.

Indeed, four of the past six matches between these sides have gone under this 3.5 goal threshold, including last time when Bayer Leverkusen won thanks to a pair of penalties in a match that featured few other major scoring chances.

Bayern Munich vs Bayer Leverkusen prop bet

  • Pick: Victor Boniface to score anytime
  • Odds: 7/4 (BenOnSports)

Despite backing the under on the high threshold, there still should be goals in this game. While all the odds on Bayern Munich players are utterly putrid thanks to their prestige, it's actually Leverkusen who have provided the bigger attacking threat so far this young season.

An early challenger for the league's Golden Boot is Victor Boniface, who has collected four goals and two assists thus far. He was immense against Gladbach in a 3-0 win, scoring two goals on a massive 11 shots, and his finishing has been just as good as his creativity. Bayern have conceded a few chances early this season, and he could be a threat, providing value where the likes of Harry Kane and other home attackers have little to offer on that front.
