The north London derby is always a massive event regardless of where the clubs stand amongst the grander context of English and European football, but when top places are on the line, it adds just a bit more juice to the affair.

Off to a flying start in the Champions League and amongst the early contenders at the top of the Premier League table, Arsenal host arch-rivals Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

While the Gunners are enjoying life to start this young season, Tottenham are also off and running under new manager Ange Postecoglou, who has Spurs second in the table and, like Arsenal, unbeaten through five league matches. They slipped meekly out of the EFL Cup, but rebounded strongly with victories over promoted sides Burnley and Sheffield United.

The home side had held a 17-match unbeaten run until the last meeting, when Arsenal won at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in January. Still, Tottenham have not won at Arsenal in league play since a 3-2 victory back in 2010, a run of 12 straight winless Premier League matches as a visitor.

Arsenal vs Tottenham prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: Draw (10/3)
  • Score prediction: Arsenal 2-2 Tottenham

Arsenal are installed as clear favourites for this Premier League match, but given their string of positive results to start the season, it's evident that a result is possible.

Something in Tottenham's favour is their lack of European football this season. Spurs fans will be disappointed to have finished outside the European places last year, but the additional rest will be a boost as they match up against an Arsenal side coming off a Wednesday Champions League match and looking ahead to additional continental matches.

    Arsenal vs Tottenham best bet

    • Pick: Tottenham double chance
    • Odds: 8/13 (BetOnSports)

It's been ages since Tottenham won on the road at Arsenal, but they have a great chance to get that monkey off their back here. On a short week, Arsenal will have to prioritise the long-term regardless of how badly they want a result in this rivalry game.

Whether the first-choice pairing of Gabriel and William Saliba is deployed again or Jakub Kiwior steps in, Arsenal could see a drop-off at the back, and that could allow Tottenham's high-flying attack to pounce. Heung-Min Son has been revived this year, James Maddison is a brilliant addition, and if Pape Sarr and Richarlison can find some form, they will be able to keep up with the Gunners.

Arsenal will surely find their moments, but this Spurs team has shown a new sense of resilience this year and should manage to keep pace.

    Arsenal vs Tottenham prop bet

Arsenal have one of the Premier League's best defences this season, but Spurs counter with one of the best attacking units, third in the league in goals scored (13) and fourth in expected goals (10.81 xG).

Last season, in weekend league fixtures immediately following European games, Arsenal managed to keep four clean sheets in eight Premier League matches, but the schedule was favourable as only two of those games came against Big Six clubs, and in one of those clean sheets, Leeds who misfired on 2.02 xG.

This year, following Champions League group stage fixtures, the Gunners must navigate league matchups against the likes of Spurs, Man City, and Brighton, which will provide a much tougher test. Expect the Spurs counter to test Arsenal relentlessly.

    Arsenal vs Tottenham flier bet

    • Pick: Dejan Kulusevski to score last
    • Odds: 14/1 (BetOnSports)

Tottenham have been kings of the late comeback over the past few years, first under Antonio Conte and again with Ange Postecoglou at the helm. We're sure they'd rather not continually put themselves in a hole, but they've shown time and again they can prove a threat down the stretch.

One player who has cropped up down the stretch is Dejan Kulusevski, who seems to grow into games as they go on. The Swedish international has four goals for Spurs since joining last summer, and three of them have had the final word on the scoresheet. Against Arsenal last time out, the 2-0 home defeat in January, Kulusevski had three shots, all three of which came in the second half, including the last one in the 88th minute.

Kulusevski scored the 100th minute winner against Sheffield United in last weekend's last-gasp win, and his 63rd minute strike sealed the win over Bournemouth back in late August. He'll be deployed on the right wing, up against Oleksandr Zinchenko who often tucks into midfield on the ball in Mikel Arteta's system, meaning Kulusevski will have space to counter.
