Mikel Arteta is looking to end Arsenal's 20-year drought without a Premier League title in the upcoming 2023/24 season.

The Gunners challenged for the domestic crown last season, but an inability to sustain their form allowed Manchester City to complete the first part of a historic European treble.

The north London side are back in the Champions League for the first time since 2017 and Arteta wants to challenge on the European stage. The Spanish coach has looked to improve his squad depth this summer as Arsenal's form faltered following injuries to the likes of William Saliba.

The Sporting News looks at the signings Arsenal have made ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The first signing of the window for Arsenal was Germany international Kai Havertz. The versatile attacker joined from rivals Chelsea for £60.2m ($76.4m), with Arteta expected to tweak his formation to fit Havertz into the starting lineup.

Netherlands centre back or rightback Jurrien Timber arrived from Ajax on July 14 for an initial fee of £34m ($44.6m), potentially rising to £38.5m ($50.5m).

On July 15, the Gunners announced the club-record signing of Declan Rice from West Ham for a fee that could reach £105m/$137m.

Declan Rice MID West Ham £105m/$137m

As with Timber, the deal for Rice was been in the works since the start of July, but Arteta's determination saw the move through to completion.

Arsenal's move for Rice meant former captain Granit Xhaka has moved on to Bayer Leverkusen, with Thomas Partey linked to the Saudi Pro League, as part of a shake-up in Arteta's midfield.

Jorginho is expected to stay on, but Rice will improve the overall quality of the Arsenal engine room, while Havertz offers another option in a central three.

In defence, Jakub Kiwior provided back-up for Gabriel Magalhaes on the left side of Arsenal's central defence last season, with Timber expected to back up Saliba on the other side, as Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu cover at full-back.

Signing a clinical striker would be a bonus for Arteta. Gabriel Jesus will miss the first month of the new season through injury with Folarin Balogun's future at the club unclear after a loan spell at Stade Reims.

Reiss Nelson has extended his Arsenal contract until 2027, with an option of an additional year, which means it is unlikely the Gunners will buy a new winger.
