The Indian Premier League (IPL) has brought fans some of the most thrilling cricketing moments over the years, with high-scoring matches and incredible individual performances from some of the sport's biggest names. Brendon McCullum's 

But not every game is a nail-biter, and some have been marked by some of the lowest scores in IPL history. These matches stand as a testament to the pressures of playing at the highest level, as even the best players can fall victim to a good bowling attack. 

From Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) infamous capitulation at the Eden Gardens to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the Rajasthan Royals' getting wrapped up for 58 by RCB in 2009 at Cape Town, TSN takes a look at the five lowest scores in IPL history.

What is the lowest total in IPL history?

1) 49: Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Kolkata Knight Riders (2017) 

On April 23, 2017, RCB was bowled out for just 49 runs in 9.4 overs, which remains the lowest score in IPL history. KKR's Nathan Coulter-Nile and Chris Woakes were the main tormentors, picking up three wickets each. KKR chased down the target easily in just 5.2 overs with 10 wickets in hand.

2) 58: Rajasthan Royals vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (2009) 

Chasing 133, Rajasthan was bowled out for just 58 runs in 17.1 overs, with leg-spinner Anil Kumble picking up a fifer for just five runs in 3.1 overs. 

Barring Yusuf Pathan, Tyron Henderson and Yusuf Pathan, each scored 11, none of their batsmen could get to double digits. RCB won the match by 75 runs with Rahul Dravid bagging the Man of the Match award for his 66 off 48 deliveries. 

3) 59: Rajasthan Royals vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (2023)

Capitulating against RCB is not new for the Royals. In what was a crucial tie in 2023, Royals ended up chasing 172 at Jaipur and ended up getting bowled out for just 59. 

Nobody apart from Joe Root (10) and Shimron Hetmyer (35) reached double figures and if it was not for Hetmeyer, Royals might have registered the lowest total ever in IPL.

4) 66: Delhi Daredevils vs Mumbai Indians (2017) 

Batting first, MI set up a mammoth total of 212, courtesy of some clean striking from Lendl Simmons (66 off 43), Parthiv Patel (25 off 22), and Kieron Pollard (63 off 35). 

In response, Delhi lost Sanju Samson on the very first ball and ultimately capitulated for just 66 in 13.4 overs. Harbhajan Singh and Karn Sharma picked up three wickets each and were the pick of the bowlers of MI.

5) 67: Delhi Daredevils vs Kings XI Punjab (2017)

Delhi Daredevils lost their openers early and never really recovered from the early blows and were eventually bowled out for a paltry score of 67 runs in just 17.1 overs. Sandeep Sharma was the chief destroyer for Kings XI Punjab, picking up four wickets for just 20 runs

In response, Kings XI Punjab chased down the target with ease, winning the match by 10 wickets in just 7.5 overs. Martin Guptill smashed an unbeaten 50 off just 27 balls, while Hashim Amla remained not out on 16, as Kings XI Punjab cruised to a comfortable victory.

5) Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders (2008)

KKR kept losing wickets at regular intervals and struggled to build any partnerships. Saurav Ganguly and Ajit Agrakar emerged as the top scorers with 15 as MI bowlers put in a remarkable performance. Shaun picked up three wickets as KKR were bowled out for 67 runs in just 15.2 overs.

In response, Mumbai Indians chased down the target with ease, winning the match by 8 wickets in just 10.5 overs. Sanath Jayasuriya played a blistering innings, scoring an unbeaten 48 off just 17 balls, while Sachin Tendulkar scored 17 runs off 16 balls.
