The ICC Men's T20 World Cup is all set to return for its ninth edition in 2024. The tournament will be held in the West Indies and USA, across nine different venues from June 1 to June 29. It is the first time the USA will play host to a major ICC global tournament.

This T20 World Cup will be the biggest tournament yet, with a total of 20 teams participating. Players from teams like Uganda, USA and Papua New Guinea will get the chance to showcase their skills at the very highest level against some of the best in the world.
One of these will be the American skipper, Monank Patel.
Who is Monank Patel? Gujarat-born cricketer who will lead USA in the 2024 T20 World Cup
Patel was born in Anand, Gujarat, in May 1993. Taking up cricket from a young age, he was selected to represent his state in domestic cricket at the U16 and U19 levels. However, after his career began to stagnate, he emigrated to the USA, receiving his green card in 2010 and settling down in New Jersey.

The wicketkeeper-batter made his List A debut for USA in October 2018, in the Regional Super50 against Combined Campuses and Colleges, a Caribbean team composed of university students. Later that month, he became the first-ever American batter to score a century in the tournament.
From there, Patel's career has gone from strength to strength as he has represented the USA multiple times in ODI and T20I cricket. In 2021, he was made skipper of the national team ahead of their qualifying campaign for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
