Batting first, the Men in Blue got off to a strong start thanks to openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Thereafter, the middle order took over as centuries from Virat Kohli (117) and Shreyas Iyer (105) along with a finishing flourish from KL Rahul helped India post an imposing 397/4.
In reply, New Zealand were always behind the game but were given hope by Daryl Mitchell and Kane Williamson's 181-run stand for the third wicket. However, the target was just too steep in the end as they fell short by 70 runs.
India seamer Mohammed Shami was the wrecker-in-chief with a stunning 7/57, becoming the fastest to 50 World Cup wickets in the process as well. He is now the top wicket-taker in this year's edition, and will be crucial in the summit clash which is set to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
But how has he performed in Ahmedabad so far?
Mohammed Shami's record at Ahmedabad: India pace bowler's performance at his IPL home detailed
Shami has only played once for India in Ahmedabad, in a Test match against Australia earlier this year. He finished with figures of 2/134 and 0/19 in a drawn game.

The rest of the pacer's matches at this ground have all come in the Indian Premier League; 3 for Punjab Kings and 10 for his current side, Gujarat Titans. All three matches for the former came in the tournament's 2021 season. In his first match at Ahmedabad, Shami took 1/25 against Kolkata Knight Riders, getting the prize wicket of Shubman Gill but was unable to prevent his team falling to a 5-wicket loss.
Out of the 10 innings he has taken the ball at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Shami has gone wicketless on just two occasions, one of them being in the IPL 2023 final. Often taking the new ball, most of Shami's victims have been openers, including the likes of Devon Conway, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Jos Buttler, among others.
