Having elected to bat first, India recovered from 33/3 to post 445 in the first innings, thanks in large part to centuries from Rohit Sharma (131) and Ravindra Jadeja (112). The bowlers then rallied after England raced to 222/2 to bowl the visitors out for just 319, to take a 126-run lead.
In their second innings, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal stole the show with a blistering 214*. Shubman Gill also scored 91, and India declared at 430/4, setting England 557 to win. They slipped to 50/7, before being bundled out for 122.
How will India line up in the fourth Test at Ranchi? Jasprit Bumrah to be rested
The Indian squad for this series has been depleted, with KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami all being unavailable at various points. Kohli will be out of the entire series, but KL Rahul could return for the fourth Test.
Rahul scored 86 in the first innings of the first Test, before missing the next two with injury. With Rahul still not a hundred per cent fit, his spot could be taken either by Rajat Patidar or Devdutt Paddikal.
In the Rajkot Test, Sarfaraz Khan proved his worth in the India jersey as he became just the fourth Indian to score two fifties on Test debut.

Perhaps more significantly, India has also rested pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for the next match. Akash Deep is set to take his place.
Dhruv Jurel should retain the keeping gloves after his excellent performance on debut. R Ashwin may have to be replaced in case he is unavailable due to the family emergency that kept him out of day three in Rajkot, but there is no news on that yet.
India probable XI for fourth Test: Rohit Sharma (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (wk), R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Mukesh Kumar.
