Xander Zayas faces his toughest challenge to date as the 21-year-old fights former world champion Patrick Teixeira in his first headliner in New York.

Zayas won the NABF super welterweight title in 2022 and has 12 wins via knockout. The two-time U.S. National Championships gold medalist signed with Top Rank when he was 16 and headlines a fight in the Hulu Theater in front of family and friends.

He faces a former world champion in Teixeira, who held the WBO super welterweight title at one point. On a three-fight win streak, all those wins have come via knockout to go with 25 wins via the power punch.

The pressure is on for Zayas as he headlines an arena he has competed in multiple times against someone who has held gold. Ranked sixth on The Sporting News’ 25 Under 25 list for 2023, Zayas is ready for the next step in his evolution to becoming a superstar.

“In this fight, I have to be intelligent. I have to follow the game plan. I have to block out all the emotions that will be a part of that night,” Zayas said. “Obviously, it’s an important night for Puerto Ricans. But we’re going to have to block that out. We’re going to have to be patient and work little by little. I have ten rounds to do the damage that I want to do and to put on a great show.”
